The big Sunday is finally here. Many teams will return home taking lessons from 2024 as their campaign is over. The New England Patriots are one of them. They came in the season under the first-time head coach, Jerod Mayo. Robert Kraft hoped that their ex-player would lead them successfully, but in vain. Running short on patience, he fired the coach.
However, it also sent shockwaves through the fans. Most of them called the decision unfair, as none of the front office staff was fired other than the head coach. It’s like putting the blame on one person when the entire staff failed collectively. After winning against the Bills in the regular season finale by 23-16, their season ended 4-13, last in the AFC East division.

In his official statement, Robert Kraft mentioned the journey of Jerod Mayo from being a rookie to retiring as a Super Bowl winner. Mentioning the big expectations he had from the head coach, Kraft said, “When he joined our coaching staff, his leadership was even more evident, as I saw how the players responded to him… Winning our season-opener on the road at Cincinnati only strengthened my convictions. Unfortunately, the trajectory of our team’s performances throughout the season did not ascend as I had hoped.” Well, 2024 was a disappointing season for the whole team, but only the head coach got fired. While others like the Executive Vice President of player personnel and GM Eliot Wolf were safe despite some poor decisions.
As the Patriots GM, Wolf didn’t make wonderful decisions. He failed to draft or bring talented players to the team except Drake Maye, who might have a long run. These factors also had a role in the debacle for Jerod Mayo, who might look for new teams after this.
Fans were angry. As soon as the news broke out, they started trolling the Pats’ owner. It’s wild.

Fans trolled Robert Kraft after firing Jerod Mayo
Fans were particularly angry with Kraft for keeping Eliot Wolf, who also had a big role in the team’s failure. While one fan wrote, “If Jerod Mayo hasn’t done enough to stay, which I agree he hasn’t, Wolf certainly hasn’t. And he’s been here longer. Clean the whole damn house, Kraft,” another fan made a short but clear message that was, “Jerod Mayo – The Patriots Sacrificial Lamb.”
The absence of an experienced QB also had a big role. Playing in his first year, expecting Drake Maye to beat the veterans is an idea too far-fetched. A fan pointed this out and wrote, “It’s kinda crazy Jerod Mayo only got ONE year with a rookie QB.” There were no excellent players. In the AFC Pro Bowl, only the special safety Brenden Schooler was selected. Another person targeted the entire roster for being inexperienced and tweeted, “Insane firing Jerod Mayo after one season who could’ve been successful with this dogshit patriots roster.”
Not only the Patriots fans, but even other people were angry over Robert Kraft’s decision. One such person mentioned, “What the hell are the patriots doing? You fire Jerod Mayo after one season? I’m not even a patriots fan, this is ridiculous.”
