Now that the Chiefs are winning every game, they are bound to face the questions of fans. Although NFL fans have expressed their concerns throughout the season about the Chiefs getting fortunate with referees’ decisions. Yet another instance took place on Sunday. As the game entered the second quarter, Patrick Mahomes saw himself getting tackled by Broncos safety Brandon Jones.
And the referees yet again went in the favor of the Chiefs as they called for a penalty. This gifted the reigning Super Bowl Champions a crucial first down that captured the NFL’s attention. However, the fans were not all happy to watch the Chiefs get a potential game-changing penalty in their favor, “There was contact, but it wasn’t much.” Somehow, CBS also didn’t show the replay. Instead, the angle they displayed didn’t do any justice whatsoever.
Although we could agree that the Chiefs getting soft calls every week does put a question mark on the NFL referees. It could also be just Champions luck showing its magic every time the Chiefs find themselves in a nail-biter. Well, we don’t know, but it wasn’t the only instance that got fans flocking to their social media. There was another moment in the first half when it looked like Patrick Mahomes was calling for refs help. This got fans on X to react, “Mahomes caught on a hot mic asking the ref to tell him when a defender is getting close. Color me shocked.”

Well, there is another fan who even called Mahomes a princess for asking the refs about the Broncos’ defense, “Princess Patrick Mahomes telling the refs to tell him when the defense is close to hitting him.” However, the fans may have got it all wrong as Mahomes was instead asking whether his right tackle, Jawaan Taylor, was lining up correctly. Because he was flagged for doing it incorrectly a few plays back.

Are the Chiefs truly skilled, or are they just getting lucky with referee calls?
Have an interesting take?
Seeing fans hop into their phones every time the referees go in favor of the Chiefs is nothing new this season. It’s more like a weekly thing now, as the referees get all the attention once the Chiefs come out victorious again and again. Like one fan described it in his own words, “Death, taxes and refs bailing out the chiefs like they’re a too big to fail bank.” Although the Chiefs have been fortunate with their calls this season, it’s not like they are just benefiting from those. As Patrick Mahomes led, the Chiefs are equally sensational when it comes to seeing out their opponents.

But few on X are not convinced, “Are we surprised? KC gets every bs call to save them?” While fans expressed their frustrations online, some pointed out that only the Chiefs benefit from such calls. “The Chiefs are the only team in the league that gets that call. The (very minimal) contact didn’t occur until Mahomes was being wrapped up already.”
There was another who summed it up in two words, “Rigged call.” Although we don’t know whether it was rigged or not, the Chiefs are indeed lucky this season as they continue their charge towards a 3-peat this season with a win against the Broncos. And now anyone outside the Chiefs Kingdom won’t be pleased to watch them make it 9-0 after Sunday.
