After winning the first MVP of his career, Josh Allen is at the peak of his popularity. And cherry on top, his fiancée, Hailee Steinfeld. With the brand new MVP status and rise in performance, the Bills had to lock him in. And they have put a huge wager on the QB for the foreseeable future.

According to the NFL insider Diana Russini, the franchise and the quarterback have agreed on a 6-year, $330 million deal, which includes a whopping $250 million guaranteed. That’s insane. However, he has a lot to work on. For starters, his prime objective will be achieving the ultimate prize: the Super Bowl! He averages 328.6 yards per game in the playoffs, more than Patrick Mahomes (314.4) and Tom Brady (281.9), but the numbers aren’t enough. Whenever the Bills have come up against the Chiefs in the playoffs with him under center, they have always lost. That’s 4 times since 2019, his first playoff year.

Josh Allen didn’t just have a great season — he made history. The 2024 MVP delivered a masterclass in efficiency, becoming the first player ever to combine 25+ touchdown passes, 10+ rushing touchdowns, and fewer than 10 interceptions in a single season. Allen wrapped up his campaign with 28 touchdown passes, 12 rushing scores, and just 6 interceptions — a rare blend of production and precision.

His brilliance didn’t stop there. Allen’s 119.6 passer rating ranks as the fourth-highest in NFL history, trailing only Aaron Rodgers‘s legendary 2011 (122.5) and 2020 (121.5) seasons, along with Peyton Manning’s 2004 gem (121.1). However, across his seven seasons with the franchise, the Bills have never even made it to a Super Bowl. That, along with the fact that Josh Allen had four years left on his previous contract, meant that this decision was more an indulgence than a necessity.

The average per-year cost goes to $55 million, the average QB salary in the league. Packers’ Jordan Love, Bengals’ Joe Burrow, and Jaguars’ Trevor Lawrence also have $55 million deals. But the more eye-raising part is the guaranteed part. $250 million! No one has ever done that before. The Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, who had a $240 million contract with $60 million APY, also had $231 million guaranteed. Josh Allen’s contract beats Prescott’s. Also, He will get ahead of Patrick Mahomes ($450 million total, $141 million guaranteed) by more than $100 million. The league is moving into an era of record-breaking contracts.

Many fans were angry at this decision. A deal so huge will cramp the franchise. How will they manage the other players? So, they started trolling the QB and the team on social media.

What’s your perspective on:

Can the Bills ever win a Super Bowl with so much money tied up in Josh Allen?

Fans troll Josh Allen and the Bills

One fan claimed that Allen taking half the salary cap was the reason they repeatedly lost the playoffs, writing, “Bro taking half the team’s salary and wonders why they can’t win a bowl.” Another fan also took a mean dig at the franchise for losing the playoff games but still giving out such huge contracts to their QB. He mentioned, “And yet you wonder how the bills can’t get passed the chiefs and most of the money is tied to Allen.” So, as per fans’ reactions, is the splurge on Allen leaving no money for recruiting other players to beef up the team?

The real question is a simple one. With a new contract on hand, can Josh Allen take the team to a trophy? If he can’t, then why is the team putting all their eggs in one basket? One fan used a tinge of sarcasm to poke fun at his playoff record by tweeting, “Still can’t beat the Chiefs in January.” Harsh, but true. Since 2020, the Bills have lost every single time in playoff games against the Chiefs. Something to consider seriously.

Some of the fans dived deep into the history and found the perfect example. Dolphins QB and Hall of Famer Dan Marino! He won all the awards in his career but never won a Super Bowl. It forced one fan to mention, “Stupid another 6 years of not winning he gonna be the new Dan Marino.” The anger is also there. They also had serious concerns about the cap space for other players. One of them pointed out, “Yeah, that WR core is gonna be entirely drafted.” $330 million is definitely a huge chunk of cap space, even split over 6 years.
