Cowboys already bout to tank for next season.” It’s official, folks. The Dallas Cowboys coaching search has taken on an absurd comedy routine like an SNL sketch. After playing ‘Should I or Should I not?’ on the question of giving Mike McCarthy another contract at the end of the regular season, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones let his head coach go. And naturally, what followed was everything Jones loves: media eyes on the Cowboys. A Deion Sanders rumor, several other head coaches linked to the team, and finally, the bombshell.

According to reports, Brian Schottenheimer will lead the Cowboys as head coach, although he lacks NFL experience beyond being a coordinator. Clarence Hill from All City DLLS says the contract signing process with the Cowboys should be finished by Friday.

Let’s break this down: When Schottenheimer joined the Cowboys in 2022 as a coaching analyst, the team promoted him first to offensive coordinator in 2023, and now they have appointed him as their head coach. Despite NFL nepotism norms (his father, Marty Schottenheimer, is a famous coach), this promotion looks questionable even by Ted Lasso’s standards.

Jerry Jones likes to handpick assistants who do whatever he wants. Schottenheimer fits the bill: He’s a rather affordable employee who follows orders and brings back team history to the Dallas Cowboys. “We’re the Dallas Cowboys—30-year Super Bowl drought—and we’re hiring a head coach with no experience?!”

The Cowboys considered hiring Leslie Frazier and Robert Saleh alongside having a video meeting with Kellen Moore, who now leads the Eagles’ offense. Jerry Jones made a terrible decision, according to X users who say he has lost his mind.

For Cowboys fans still praying for a glimmer of hope, just remember: Football at the NFL level functions like a reality TV show.  ”RJ, the Cowboys are about to hire Bryan Schottenheimer, what a joke of a franchise.” Fans remain absolutely furious.

What’s your perspective on:

Has Jerry Jones completely lost it with this Schottenheimer hire, or is there a method to his madness?

Furious fans amidst Jerry Jones’s decision

The Cowboys’ 7–10 finish and 30-year Super Bowl dry spell left fans hoping Jones would bring in a head coach to end the team’s bad luck. The latest rumors indicate that Brian Schottenheimer will take over from his role as offensive coordinator to become the next head coach of the Cowboys. Every member of Cowboys Nation reacted with disbelief.

Fans hoped for a major hiring announcement but this selection fails to deliver. Twitter (now X) reacted immediately with its displeasure. One user didn’t mince words: “I get people wanting to look at the positive side of things, but we’re the Dallas Cowboys.. 30 year Super Bowl drought and we’re about to hire a head coach that has no head coaching experience. Just another yes man for the Jones to control.”

Ouch. But it doesn’t stop there. Cowboys fans aren’t exactly known for their patience. Another fan made it clear how this hire is affecting his blood pressure: “Are the Cowboys trying to put me in the grave?! They better not promote Brian as our HC.”

The Cowboys dropped from their 2023 record of 12 wins and 5 losses to 7 wins and 10 losses in 2024 due to Dak Prescott’s season-ending hamstring injury. Schottenheimer’s coaching background doesn’t suggest he can save the team because his father’s achievements overshadow his own. During the last season, Schottenheimer did not make any play calls because Mike McCarthy had taken over that role. So, what exactly is Schottenheimer bringing to the table? @Chase_Senior echoed the sentiment of many fans:  Jerry Jones and the Cowboys are really about to hire Brian Schottenheimer as head coach. Jerry has totally lost it.”

The reaction shows how seriously people take this situation. Some fans are feeling the long-term effects of Jerry Jones’ reign: “Good for you. I have lived here my whole life and life long Cowboys fan but Jerry has ruined them :(.”

The history of hiring untested head coaches haunts every Cowboys fan who follows the team. When Jerry Jones last promoted an internal candidate straight to head coach, it produced Jason Garrett, who led the team into eight years of average results and constant clapping.

But hey, maybe Schottenheimer will surprise us.  As the first-time head coach, he could bring the Cowboys a Super Bowl championship after a wait of three decades. Despite the fan’s mocking comment, the Cowboys’ fanbase waits patiently for next season. Year after year, we face another offseason marked by uncertain team choices and Jerry Jones’s internet popularity. Despite other issues, one thing’s for sure: Cowboys always bring excitement, whether it’s with their play or their controversies.
