Calls Mount Against Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for ‘Lying’ About Major Super Bowl Feat as Kendrick Lamar Falls Short of Usher

The Super Bowl LIX between the Eagles and the Chiefs has been the most-watched NFL game in history. According to FOX Sports, Yahoo Sports, and CNN, the ‘average’ viewers for the game were 127.7, the highest ever. That’s dope. Though the Eagles-Chiefs Super Bowl rematch was a center point, Kendrick Lamar’s halftime show was also the main attraction of the game which had a crazy number of views. But… we can’t say it’s the most-watched, unlike Jay-Z’s Roc Nation. 

Kendrick Lamar delivered a classy performance—no doubt about it. But when it comes to the numbers, 133.5 million people worldwide watched his show. However, it wasn’t the most-watched NFL halftime show. Usher’s performance at Super Bowl LVIII drew a staggering 202.4 million viewers. Despite this, after Lamar’s halftime show, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation claimed it was the most-watched. The top music company may have confused total Super Bowl viewership with actual halftime show numbers.

The interesting fact is, that Jay-Z’s company itself posted about Usher’s record-breaking views last year. And after claiming Kendrick Lamar’s performance was the most watched, Roc Nation has been trolled to be lying bluntly. Jay-Z’s Roc Nation posted graphics of Usher’s halftime show in 2024 with the overlay text: “The highest total audience in history. Up +10% versus last year’s Super Bowl (183 million),” where 202.4 was written in bold. 

But you know, how is Roc Nation lying? Contrary to last year’s post, Jay-Z’s company posted Lamar’s graphics saying it’s the most watched halftime show ever “and up +3% than last year.” But…didn’t mention the numbers of last year’s views in the bracket, as they did in Usher’s post! But the NFL fans captured it, and couldn’t control reacting to it. NFL fans have trolled Jay-Z for lying about Chiefs vs Eagles Super Bowl halftime show views.

Backlash grows over Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for lying 

One fan named Burner Account on X (formerly ‘Twitter’) bashed Jay-Z’s company, commenting, “That Usher performance was legendary. Everybody is trying to associate not liking this year’s show as racism, but I’ve yet to find a single white person who didn’t like Usher’s Superbowl show.” And why not? Usher’s 2024 performance featured Alicia Keys, Ludacris, Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri, H.E.R., and will.i.am, definitely it was an enthralling one. 

While another fan said, “People will really say anything on this app smh”. And if this was not enough, people have commented directly on Jay-Z. Viewers went crazy in the Super Bowl LVIII halftime as Usher performed a medley of hits from his three-decade career. 

A fan commented, “I mean Jay-Z is also a pdf. Lol.”  Although Lamar performed several of his biggest hits, including his diss track ‘Not Like Us’ aimed at Drake, fans weren’t all happy. Another reacted emphasizing that even if Jay-Z’s company’s claim was true, people wouldn’t believe it. The comment was, “Ya, no one believed it was the most watched ever lol.” One football fan reacted to all the stuff saying, “Roc Nation is full of fakes. Not surprised.” That’s a clear loss of credibility. 

Over the years, the NFL has taken a more commercialized approach to its halftime show, featuring rappers and high-profile entertainers in the spotlight. Jay-Z’s partnership with the league has played a significant role in bringing hip-hop to the forefront of the Super Bowl. However, this shift has led to mixed reactions.

Well, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation has not responded to it. But the NFL world has proved again that you can’t throw dumb facts and wait for ignorance and appreciation!
