The Philadelphia Eagles again faced off with the Kansas City Chiefs. But not on the battlefield, instead on the battle of the 2025 NFL Draft on Day 1. We all knew that the Chiefs were sitting at No. 31st overall pick, while Howie Roseman’s team was waiting to announce their 32nd overall pick. But soon things changed suddenly…..

At 31st overall, Howie Roseman’s Eagles were selecting their rookie of the year in Round 1. Yes! The Super Bowl champions trade up one spot with the Chiefs, thereby giving the SB runner-ups the last spot in the draft, i.e., the 32nd overall pick.

As per NFL insider Adam Schefter on X, “Eagles trade No. 32 and No. 164 to the Chiefs. Chiefs trade No. 31 to Eagles.” Pete Sweeney, too, highlighted correctly: “By trading one spot back, the #Chiefs pick up No. 164, which is a fifth-rounder. Chiefs will again be on the clock in a second, and I still wouldn’t rule out a second straight trade-back.” Nevertheless, as a result of this, Philly was on the clock before the Chiefs, who later went on to pick LB Jihaad Campbell from Alabama.

Campbell gave everything he had at Bama – three strong seasons, over a hundred tackles, big stops, and pure grit. He even battled through a torn labrum, had surgery, and now he’s pushing to be ready by training camp.

On the other hand, Howie Roseman’s Philly brought back Zack Baun, sure, but with Nakobe Dean still recovering, Campbell might just get his shot. And if the Eagles want another real run at the Super Bowl, having a tough, hungry guy like him could make all the difference. But gaining just one spot ahead didn’t sit well with the Chiefs fans.

Howie Roseman’s 31st overall pick strategy confused all!

The Eagles and Chiefs went from Super Bowl rivals to trade partners on draft night on Thursday. But the eagerness of Howie Roseman’s team could be seen as he wasn’t about to wait around. Although it was a big bold move, they made one big time addition with Jihaad Campbell. But this made many Chiefs’ fans upset, as one commented, “bro couldn’t wait one pick lmao,” while other called out Philly GM, “Howie trading just to trade.”

While others went on calling it a useless trade, saying, “Might just be the most useless trade ever, highly doubt chiefs were gonna draft the guy eagles wanted,” or “Giving them the belt then trading with them is hilarious (crying emoji).” Baffled audience questioned Roseman too: “Why would the Eagles trade up to take a guy that there is no way in hell the Chiefs would have picked?

No doubt, this might be true. The Chiefs might not have wanted Jihaad Campbell on their roster, as one of the main concerns of the team was to bring someone who could protect QB Patrick Mahomes. And when the time came, the Chiefs selected tackle Josh Simmons from Ohio State to protect their quarterback, at 32nd overall in Round 1. And Mahomes? Ah, he is elated too, as the 29-year-old QB just dropped a smiling face with sunglasses emoji, perhaps approving the draft pick!
