“Evan McPherson’s falloff will be studied.” That’s what one of the fans said after he watched the Cincinnati Bengals kicker, Evan McPherson miss a couple of opportunities to get a lead over the Los Angeles Chargers. This might have been the best and the largest second-half comeback that we’ve witnessed this season. And by the end of the fourth quarter, Joe Burrow’s efforts were in vain.
How can you miss two field goals in the fourth quarter? That’s beyond a lot of people. First, it was a 48-yarder and then another 51-yarder. Even the NBC play-by-play announcer took a dig at the Bengals when he said, “Zac Taylor has seen this movie.” Man, it feels so bad watching Burrow make elite comebacks only to go home with disappointment.

The Bengals kicker completed 2 of his four kicks, however, he capitalized on all the extra points. This game made McPherson stand among five 2024 kickers with a career-low field goal percentage. Both of his attempts went flying wide left. As of this game, the Bengals kicker is 72.4% on field goals, and gone are the days when he averaged 82.7%.
Burrow scoring 21 points on three consecutive drives was in vain after all. At one moment, we saw a dejected Justin Herbert on the camera, but the scenery changed very quickly and this time, Joe Burrow was in the rut. It just makes everyone wonder as to what is going on with the kickers this season. There are just too many misses from 50+ yards and even some from 40+ yards.
Though we do realize that making a field goal from the halfway point is a daunting task, still. Eagles kicker Jake Elliott was also getting some flak in the Thursday Night Football game where the kicker flubbed three different kicks. The Eagles fans were mad, and that’s exactly what the Bengals fans feel. They didn’t spare an opportunity to slander Evan McPherson.

Bengals fans had enough of Evan McPherson
McPherson completed 83.9% of his kicks last season but that number has plummeted down to 72.4% this year. Though the season is not done yet and those numbers can still improve. This prompted a Cincy fan to point out how “Evan McPherson’s falloff will be studied.” Another Bengals fan had no soft spot for McPherson and blatantly demanded for him to be ruled out from the roster as they wrote, “Cut evan mcpherson. His run is over.”

This other person felt the pain of the Eagles fans when he wrote, “Evan Mcpherson has let this team down.” While many others, including this fan, asked for him to be cut, “Evan McPherson, you can see yourself out.” A Cincy fan had a brutal take on the kicker. He pointed out that “Evan McPherson is a f—ing joke.”

The Bengals are now 4-7. And Joe Burrow just woke up from a dream where he thought his team could make it to the playoffs. The Cincinnati team cannot afford to lose any more games. But at the same time, they cannot win 7 games in a row. However, it does help that their schedule will get a bit easier moving forward.
