The Detroit Lions made it into the playoffs! They won against the Green Bay Packers with 34-31. However, what head coach Dan Campbell did on the field, wasn’t expected by anyone. Although he was pumped up with the win, the 48-year-old’s wrong decision has set the internet on fire against him.

After the win, during the celebration time, Dan Campbell made sure to hype up his players. In a post-game motivated speech, he said, “I’m so freakin’ proud of you, man. That’s the way to show up. You talk about pressure, we live in pressure. That’s where we freakin’ thrive. You did it again.” Yes, the team did it again after their previous year’s playoff contention.

However, Dan Campbell still needs to work on his decisions. With the game tied at 31-31 and just 43 seconds left, the Lions faced a fourth-and-1. Everyone expected a safe play field goal attempt by Jake Bates to take the lead. But Dan Campbell had other plans. Instead of going for a go-ahead field goal, the head coach decided to go for it on fourth-and-inches in that tied game. Obviously, this decision surprised and puzzled many.

Nevertheless, the crowd held its breath as Dan Campbell called for another run by David Montgomery. And guess what? Montgomery didn’t just get the first down. Luckily, he stormed ahead for seven yards, setting the Lions up perfectly. Then the clock ticked down, leaving just two seconds. During this nerve-wracking moment, Bates stepped onto the field and delivered. Consequently, the game-winning kick sailed through the uprights. The Lions won over the Packers 34-31.

But this victory wasn’t easy. Besides that mistake, let us remind you, that wasn’t Dan Campbell’s first bold move of the night. The Lions went for it on fourth down five times, converting four – including two clutch touchdowns. Nevertheless, their one failure didn’t shake their resolve. Probably, the head coach and his team were lucky today! And the team’s relentless grit carried them to a 12-1 record and a playoff berth, making Dan Campbell happy & proud.

But the fans weren’t satisfied with what they saw in the Thursday game at Ford Field. Because the question still remains: What if?

The Lions’s fans blasted Dan Campbell calling him dumb?

Obviously, there was a chance to send Jake Bates at that moment and seal a victory. But Dan Campbell’s different thought might have landed him into trouble. However, as the game result is out now for Detroit, it doesn’t mean that everything is fine for the head coach. The online fans made sure to rip Campbell after his arguably poor decision in a crucial game.

For instance, a fan said, “Idc if he got the first, going for it in that situation is a HORRIBLE decision.” The fear of losing by one mistake could easily be seen in these comments. Such as in NFL reporter Ari Meirov’s tweet, where he shared that moment’s video and wrote: “Dam (Dan) Campbell is a psycho. A near disaster but it worked out.” Another one surely praised his guts, while highlighting the mistake: “That takes some b–lls! Wow … that could have went horribly wrong.” Not only that!

There were more such comments, such as, someone criticizing Dan Campbell by saying, “Man if this goes the other way it would’ve been a completely different discussion.” Yes, they all are right. If he had lost the game, people might have called more loudly for his firing. And eventually, the team would have lost that game. Hence, talking about the same, another one quipped, “He’s gonna cost his team when it matters the most.” While someone added, “He is such a dumb––s for going for that.” Nevertheless, the team won and made it to the playoffs.

Fans now really hope that Dan Campbell doesn’t repeat the mistake in the next games.
