Windy City may have just witnessed their No.1 overall pick, Caleb Williams, get his lost confidence back. Yes, despite the Bears losing yet again in week 16, their rookie QB showed why they drafted him in the first place. Taking on a Lions team that is depleted with injuries, Williams grabbed his opportunity and scored two consecutive TDs.

One of them came when the Bears were already down by 20 points with less than 7 minutes of the first half remaining. Well, Williams’ first TD of the day came through a 1-yard pass to Cole Kmet. This gave the Bears a chance to muster a comeback as they narrowed down their lead to 13 points. However, the Lions scored their 3rd TD of the game, which opened up a 20-point gap yet again. Now, Caleb Williams pulled off something that the Bears fans probably had been waiting all season.

He dropped back on the Lions’ 20-yard line and unleashed a rocket to his receiver Keenan Allen. That 45-yard TD pass ended up being Williams’ longest ever this season. Well, pulling off that TD led to the Bears QB hitting soccer sensation Cristiano Ronaldo’s signature “SIUUUUUUU” celebration. Now, seeing him jumping for joy at his home makes us wonder whether Williams is slowly gaining back his confidence.

Before entering today’s clash, the former USC QB was exhausted both mentally and physically. Maybe looking at the Bears’ last week’s 30-12 loss against the Vikings could help you get an idea. Williams has already been sacked a whopping 58 times. Yes, you heard that, right? 58, that’s the third-most by any NFL rookie since the 1970s. Now, the Bears, after today’s loss, will be on a 9-game losing streak. This means it would be their fourth consecutive year with more than 10 losses.

As Williams said after losing to the Vikings, “It’s been frustrating and encouraging. I haven’t experienced anything like this. That’s the frustrating part. The encouraging part is how much we fight as a team.” But there isn’t much of a fight left in the Bears. As their rookie QB got bashed by the fans for celebrating a meaningless TD.

Fans go after Caleb Williams for celebrating a lost cause

Caleb Williams' 'SIUUUUUUU' celebration: Confidence boost or unnecessary showboating against weaker opponents?

Have an interesting take?

Well, fans didn’t like what they saw Williams doing despite their team being down by 13 points going into the second half. After hitting Cristiano Ronaldo’s SIU, fans were quick to express their distaste with the rookie. One of them pointed out the injuries that the Lions had before the game: “Against a bunch of 3rd stringers.” Now, the Bears QB took his chance and played one of his best games of the season. Although his team lost by a margin of 17 points, Williams racked up 334 passing yards and 2 TDs.

However, fans were still not satisfied with the rookie as they wrote, “he’s playing awful.” It’s safe to say Williams wasn’t really awful. The 23-year-old did complete 26 of his passes out of 40 attempts. Now, going back to his wild celebrations, there was a fan who pointed out the deficit when he chose to celebrate, “Bluds down like 20pts.” Well, those reactions didn’t stop there, as another person pointed out: “Dancing while losing is crazy.”

Alright! But let the man celebrate because losing has been a bit of a tough pill to swallow for Williams. Who knows, maybe after today’s display, Williams will come back stronger in the remaining games. Because he has to prove his haters wrong, but it won’t be possible until the Bears win a game.
