In the divisional game against the Ravens, Bills’ cornerback Christian Benford suffered a concussion. And he didn’t fully practice this week. On Wednesday and Thursday, he was a limited participant and on Friday, he did not practice. While the team claimed there was a personal reason behind that, CB was trying to clear the concussion protocol. He did and started the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs. But the decision went as horribly wrong as it could have.

In the first quarter, he went to tackle the rookie receiver Xavier Worthy. With his right arm, he was already tackling the WR Justin Watson. Out of nowhere, safety Damar Hamlin also came to make a tackle on the rookie. But as he slouched himself to get past, Hamlin’s helmet collided with CB’s head. The brutal head-on hit shook his balance, and Christian Benford fell backward. It reminded some of Miami‘s handling of Tua Tagovailoa last year.

The medical team rushed to the field. As they talked to him, it became clear he couldn’t continue. It puts the management and the entire NFL under serious contemplation. He was fresh off a concussion and suffered another one this week. That’s a tremendous risk. Ahead of the game, Christian Benford shared an emotional IG Story with quotes from 1 Peter 5:9-10. He put his faith in God as the lines read, “Yes, you will suffer for a short time. But after that, God will make everything right. He will make you strong.” However, the ending was not right for the cornerback.

The fans were angry about the decision. While the will to win is right, risking his health and career for a game is a step too far. They trolled the league and the management for this decision.

Fans criticize decision to play Christian Benford

While one fan directly referred to the feelings of CB being hit again, he was also angry with the NFL and wrote, “Why the f— was Christian Benford playing? He had to be Carted off and had no idea what planet he was on. Shame on the nfl.” Another fan pointed out the risk of playing him after a concussion and tweeted, “The bills just cooked christian Benford for life just for this game.” He’s right there. One person who knew about the CB’s injury was also shocked, like everyone else. Josh Allen‘s teammate didn’t fully practice over the entire week. So the fan mentioned, “I’m shocked Christian Benford was playing in the first place.” That’s right.
