The Chiefs are showing signs of desperation. They have lost many players to injuries. And Andy Reid wants to boost them at any cost. They traded the CB L’Jarius Sneed to the Titans, and are missing him now. The HC is exploring an option in the retired free agent CB Steven Nelson who retired just 6 months ago.

Though there were rumors that he would visit the Chiefs, NFL insider Ian Rapoport gave the update. Nelson’s long-time agent Josh Arnold confirmed that the Chiefs were waiting for him. This out-of-the-blue move is shocking. However, the fans are not happy. It stems from the way he left the Chiefs in 2018.

During his 4 years stint at the Chiefs from 2015 to 2018, the CB had 177 tackles (153 solo), but then-defensive coordinator Bob Sutton’s plans didn’t improve his game. However, the departure to the Steelers was ugly. Steven Nelson got into a fight with fans on X (then-Twitter) and replied, “I’m glad too never wanted to be there I’m anyway b–“. That was just the tip. Andy Reid, too, didn’t expect what happened next.

On June 4, 2020, the Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu expressed his feelings on X about the former Broncos LB Brandon Marshall taking a knee. He wrote that he should have sided with the linebacker. Nelson’s reply to the tweet, “Kansas City no better I seen what they did to Marcus Peters when he took a knee stay woke,” stirred the hornet’s nest in the Chiefdom. The allegations were too hot to handle.

However, looks like the franchise is ready to put the past matters under the carpet. Their focus is on the 3-peat. But fans still are stuck on it and criticized the move.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Andy Reid's desperation move with Steve Nelson a sign of the Chiefs' declining dominance?

Fans troll Steven Nelson alongside Andy Reid & Co.

While one fan trolled Steve Nelson on X and wrote, “He’s awful lol,” another fan just could not handle the news and mentioned, “Cringe on so many levels.” That’s interesting. They are not the fan favorites because of their shaky performance, as the Lions and Ravens were ahead of them in the club-wise Pro Bowl voting.

Another fan posted an IShowSpeed’s gif while writing “making the chiefs worse.” Another member of the Chiefdom criticized Andy Reid and the Chiefs for going back to the retired linebacker while mentioning, “This better be BS… there has to be better options available.” The fans seem seriously against this.

One fan just used a 3-word message, “Awwww hell no” but it was powerful. But the path forward is tough for the head coach. They need to tighten up their defense on a brief notice as only a month remains before the playoffs. It’s their priority.
