Growing up, Caleb Williams idolized Aaron Rodgers and was a Green Bay Packers fan. However, he’s on the different side of the ball now, and on that side, the Bears are long-term rivals with the Green Bay Packers. “When in Rome, do as Romans do,” now has a new meaning for the ex-USC QB.

Williams was seen at Old Crow restaurant in Chicago and Barstool Chicago made sure that they didn’t miss out on him. They uploaded a video on X titled, “Caleb Williams was loving the “Green Bay Sucks” chants at Old Crow last night.  The video shows Caleb Williams chanting “Green Bay Sucks,” as people in the bar rejoiced when they heard their rivals get dissed.

The Chicago Bears haven’t been able to beat the Cheeseheads since 2019, but now that Aaron Rodgers is gone, it would be an interesting battle to witness between young QBs like Jordan Love and Caleb Williams. However, since June 2014, the Chicago Bears are 2-18 against the Green Bay Packers. Recognized as a generational talent, there is a lot of hope riding on the Bears’ prized possession. However, back in 2022, Caleb Williams posted something contradictory on X.

“Okay I guess I’m still a Packer fan!” posted Williams on X in March 2022. That was when Aaron Rodgers was on the cusp of leaving the Green Bay Packers but decided to come back for another season before he finally moved to the New York Jets. Rodgers’ last season with the Packers had him play for 3,695 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Williams is known for his football acumen, his ability to make plays outside the pocket and it’s because of these qualities, that GM Ryan Poles thinks that the QB can take this Chicago team into the playoffs eventually.  About a month ago, Poles stood on the podium and had a few things to say about the QB.

“He’s got special instincts, awareness, especially in the pocket to manipulate the pocket, get in and out of the pocket, spatial, (his) feel for space is special. That’s his special sauce,” Poles said and added, “Then once we kind of speed things up and start to identify different coverages and there’s an adjustment to an NFL offense that he’s got to go through as well. So we’re really excited to work with the tools he has.”

Before the draft, there was so much hype about Williams that he started drawing comparisons with Patrick Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers. However, Williams also revealed that there’s a thing or two he can learn from these veteran Super Bowl-winning QBs.

Caleb Williams modeling himself after the best of the best

During tryouts a lot of coaches and scouts had praises to sing about Caleb Williams and compared him with the likes of Patrick Mahomes and even Aaron Rodgers. Williams’ body mechanics are something else and he makes sure to keep his posture in check while making accurate throws, even on the run.

“Regarding NFL readiness, no prospect has a foundation for throwing and movement efficiency like Caleb,” one coach said. “Although his arm strength is the 99th percentile, he can throttle and adapt his throw at a similar level to [Patrick] Mahomes.” But that is exactly what Caleb Williams aspires to model his game.

“Sitting back, watching, learning taking in what I can take in and adapt to my game in my best way possible and make it my own,” Williams said and added, “Some of it may look like some of what Pat does, some of what Aaron Rodgers does because they’re the best and to be the best you want to learn from the best.

Williams has 10,082 yards in his college season with a total of 93 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions in his 3 college seasons. His accuracy has allowed him to pass the ball without any hindrance. But not only throwing,

Williams has managed to get 9.5 yards on average while rushing, which is the 11 best in the country. But that’s not all, Williams’ release has been the fastest in college football, which allows him to throw the ball quickly when his spider senses tingle. One scout went as far as to compare him with Aaron Rodgers.

“To me, he’s peak-era Aaron Rodgers,” said an AFC regional scout who has spent time on Williams’ tape. “The way he moves in the pocket to create passing windows and then, boom, he’s thrown a no-looker across his body or a deep ball that looked impossible.”

Now that Williams is among the professionals, the future will tell whether the comments of these NFL scouts stand the test of time or not. It would be fun to see Williams go against Jordan Love, who took his team to the divisional playoffs, but lost to the 49ers. Jordan Love has an upper hand in terms of NFL experience and the fact that he’s had a chance to learn from Aaron Rodgers. However, Caleb Williams is put in a position where he will be forced to start games without any prior veteran mentorship.
