Just as the Bears were trying to shake off their recent loss from Jayden Daniels‘ Hail Mary pass, they stumbled again with another defeat, this time to the Cardinals. Things were already pretty messy with some of Matt Eberflus’s coaching calls. In week 9, they’re grabbing headlines again, not in a good way.
Former NFL DE, Chris Canty, while speaking about Caleb, said “But one of the things that I pointed out from the jump when it comes to Caleb Williams is just the inconsistency when it comes to him playing on schedule, playing within the structure of the offense.” While he’s had his standout plays, he’s clearly struggling with poor decision-making and inaccuracy. And maybe this isn’t something a top draft pick should be struggling with.

Further, Canty said, “ Caleb Williams has not yet figured out that he can’t get away with the things that he used to do at USC in Oklahoma in the big leagues.” After the recent loss to the Cardinals, concerns about Caleb Williams‘ performance have been raised. The Cardinals beat them with a huge 29-9 score. And honestly, at this point in the season, this was a loss they just couldn’t afford.
The Bears have been underperforming for the last two years, always ending up at the bottom of the table. For Bears fans, Caleb Williams looked like the QB they’ve been waiting for. The 22-year-old, who’s just starting his professional career, is already getting a lot of heat. A player of his caliber, especially after winning the Heisman Trophy, is always going to be under a microscope, especially when things aren’t going well.
Struggling in your debut season is something most players go through, and Williams is no different. College football and the NFL are on totally different levels. So why is the question of whether Williams can regress this season such a big deal? It might be because of how strong the QB started the season, especially his big performance in London against the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he threw four touchdown passes and had no turnovers. That game had everyone talking about him. Since then, his performance has noticeably dipped.

The 22-year-old has admitted to his struggles and is working hard to fix them. However, his ongoing issues have raised some concerns about his future in the NFL.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Caleb Williams the savior the Bears need, or just another victim of poor management?
Have an interesting take?
Is all the pressure on Caleb Williams?
Moving on, Caleb Williams did not perform up to expectations. In the recent game against the Cardinals, he had no touchdowns. And only managed to complete 22 of 41 passes for 217 yards. But is it just Williams who’s responsible for the Bears’ upsetting season?

This season, the Bears have been dealing with a lot from poor coaching decisions to a defense that just can’t seem to hold up. The offense isn’t looking too great either, and that’s just piling more pressure on Williams. As Chris Canty mentioned, “The defense let go of the rope, which conversely puts more pressure on Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears offense in order for the team to be competitive. And I just think it’s an impossible situation that he’s in right now.”
The rookie QB alone cannot carry the whole team on his shoulders. And things are not looking great under the mentorship of a coach like Matt Eberflus. What the Chicago Bears management needs to do is sit back, reflect, and bring in a better coach. As for this season, it just seems like it slipped out of their hands.
