Jerry Jones is all about promoting homegrown talent this year. First, OC Brian Schottenheimer took the HC chair, and now some players are getting their contract extensions done with the team. The team could have a minor advantage if they added some new talent to the roster, but no, this time, it’s about concentrating on their players. Is that a positive thing, or are they just missing opportunities? Well, only time will tell. But a few contract extensions were fair, like Osa Odighizuwa’s. Does it feel like a checkmate? Now, the team has reportedly re-signed another homegrown talent.
Cowboys punter Bryan Anger‘s three-year contract worth $9 million ended this season, making him a free agent. Sean Payton‘s Broncos made a strong push to get Bryan on their roster, but the 36-year-old preferred to keep his roots in Dallas. According to ESPN reporter Todd Archer, the Cowboys are re-signing Anger to a two-year deal. Jerry Jones pulled a fast one on Sean. As per reports, the 36-year-old is signing a deal worth $6.4M to bolster the roster.
Per the source, the Broncos went hard after punter Bryan Anger today. On the contrary, he’s taking his talents back to Dallas after agreeing to terms with the Cowboys (2 years, $6.4m).

Well, it’s time for Payton and the Broncos to look for another punter if they were eyeing Anger. The California alum started his NFL journey donning the Jaguars jersey in 2012. After playing his rookie contract of four years with the Jaguars, Bryan had stints with the Bucs and then the Texans. In 2021, he landed in Dallas. A real journeyman, isn’t he?
Anger’s performance in his debut season with Dallas earned him his first Pro Bowl selection. He racked up 3,143 yards while punting the ball 65 times. Bryan’s punts that season traveled 48.4 yards on average before being returned. That is a solid performance for a punter. So after that season, Dallas re-signed him, locking him in for another three years. And now, again, they have retained him for another two years. Now, where are they going with this?
Anger is not the only one who received an extension offer during free agency. Notably, Jones and the front office management locked in another homegrown talent. Love for their community rides high in Dallas, although the Mavericks didn’t show loyalty to their prodigal son.
What’s your perspective on:
Did Jerry Jones just outsmart Sean Payton, or was it just luck keeping Anger in Dallas?

That’s for another day…
Jerry Jones keeps it in-house with another extension
“I knew I wanted to stay in Dallas the whole time, it was just a matter of whether or not I was going to be able to.” That’s what DE Osa Odighizuwa had to say after the team offered him another four-year extension worth $80 million. The best move of this offseason ranks Dallas on top for tying up their critical players.
Well, except for Micah Parsons.
So after Osa and Anger, the team also re-signed WR and punt specialist KaVontae Turpin. The 28-year-old was set to be a restricted free agent. But acccording to ESPN, Turpin and Dallas agreed to a three-year deal worth $18 million. The TCU alum’s new deal includes $5.5 million guaranteed money. KaVontae would have most likely received a one-year offer had Dallas not offered an extension.

It could have been worth $5.3 million or so, as a restricted free agent. But with an extension, Turpin has more security and a likely bigger paycheck. So for three years, the WR and return specialist will not pack his bags from Dallas.
The Cowboys also re-signed safety Markquese Bell with a max value of $12 million deal, locking him in for another three years. That makes a lot of contract extensions this offseason.
