Zach Wilson‘s dream run is about to meet a tragic end. The 24-year-old QB replaced veteran Aaron Rodgers in the first game of the season when A-Rod suffered an Achilles injury. The Jets won that game but this time around, the Bills got the better of them, making Robert Saleh take a pretty hard decision.

The Jets had found some resurgence as they won three consecutive games from week 5 to 7 to strike a comeback. But in the last three outings, their offense has just completely fallen apart. The 32-6 defeat from the Bills is not going to heal soon. During the game in the third quarter, Robert Saleh benched Zach Wilson because of the dismal performance. Now, Wilson has come to the foyer, finally breaking the silence on his future.

While Robert Salah had previously mentioned not pointing fingers toward one man, the recent benching of Zach Wilson speaks a different story. In a recent presser by the Jets, Wilson addressed the situation and shed some light on the upcoming prospects. When a reporter asked straightaway “You have a future here with the Jets or would you kind of prefer a fresh start elsewhere?” Wilson was quick to reply, “It’s not something I’ve thought about.

Still pondering on his current position he said, “I truly do have so much love and care for this offense you know I’m really to the point where I want to see a succeed whether I’m out there or not”. He then acknowledged his close friendship with QB Tim Boyle and looked eager to help the guys figure out the offense better.

He shrugged all the doubts about going elsewhere and said “I got a lot of love for this guy for these guys and everyone in this locker room so how can I help them and we’ll handle the rest later.” With the comments from the QB grabbing headlines, the eyes remain set on the future plans for the Jets and their young Quarterback.

Way forward for the Jets and Wilson

Zach Wilson was in the consensus of filling up A-Rod’s shoes in upcoming years but his sub-par performances may as well force Saleh to look for other reliable options. He has only managed to secure six TDs from his ten outings and during the last six games he has secured only two. After Wilson was taken off the field in the last game, he was replaced by QB Tim Boyle.

Veteran Trevor Siemian is also a strong contender who can be promoted from the practice squad. With or without Wilson, Robert Saleh, and the Jets are right now stuck in a grim situation and waiting for their keyman A-Rod to recover faster to make a comeback. What will be the effect of his return on Zach Wilson remains a question looming around.
