What can Kevin Stefanski and the Cleveland Browns do to tackle their quarterback problems? Let’s clarify one thing: signing Deshaun Watson on a $230 million guaranteed deal was nothing but regret for the Browns. To make things even worse, the guy’s not going to play in the 2025 season as well. So who’s going to be their QB1? They traded for Kenny Pickett in exchange for a fifth-round pick.
But let’s not kid ourselves: following his first couple of seasons in Pittsburgh, Pickett requested a trade. His third season wrapped up after appearing in just 5 games under Jalen Hurts. So he’s probably not your QB1. That left the Browns to use their No. 2 overall pick in April. And with the Titans already having their sight on Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders could be their guy. But the big question is: Are they really going to draft Sanders?
That’s where the NFL analyst Isaiah Stanback comes in with his analysis. See, recently, Stanback talked about the Browns’ quarterback situation while appearing on Good Morning Football. And that’s where things get pretty exciting. Stanback believes that the Browns just can’t afford to pass on Sanders. The reasons?

As per Stanback, “Because, they don’t have enough at the quarterback position.” he noted. “We all know the situation with Deshaun Watson, all right? They gave him 230 million dollars guaranteed, he went out there. It didn’t go great. Then he got injured, and then during rehab, he re-torn Achilles. So, the probability of him playing this year is slim to none.” That’s something worth noting.
Even since the Browns signed him on a massive $230M contract, the guy’s been a total disaster for the Browns. In the last three seasons, Watson played just 19 games. Just 19. Games. That’s not a franchise QB. That’s more of an expensive spectator. And now? Yeah, he’s probably out of the 2025 season as well. So what did the Browns do?
They bring in the fourth-year QB, Pickett. But depth in their QB room? Nada. That’s exactly why Stanback believes that Cleveland just can’t afford to pass on Sanders. “In terms of depth, you don’t have any depth at the quarterback position,” he continued. “When you look at trying to rebuild an organization, there is no better quarterback in this year’s draft to build an organization around and who has the experience to build up organizations that are not doing well than Shedeur Sanders.”
See it this way: before Sanders arrived in Colorado, the Buffaloes endured a disastrous 1-11 season. Fast forward to a couple of seasons, and the guy led the Buffaloes to a 9–4 record in 2024 and an appearance in the Alamo Bowl (a huge shout-out to Coach Prime as well). No wonder the NFL analyst believes the guy has the experience to build up organizations.
What’s your perspective on:
Did the Browns' $230M gamble on Watson doom their future, or is Sanders the savior they need?
Have an interesting take?
“He built up Colorado from a non-winning organization and built them up to where they’re respectable. So in terms of somebody who has the body of work, Shedeur Sanders is the guy,” Stanback further said. The kicker? Sure, with the No. 2 overall pick, the Browns could draft Sanders. But lurking in the shadows and even after signing two veteran QBs, the New York Giants are cooking something.

There’s a lot to unfold in Shedeur Sanders’ drafting
If we compare the Giants to the Steelers in this offseason, no doubt the Big Blue played smarter than the Steel City when they signed Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson rather than playing a waiting game with Aaron Rodgers. Because let’s be real—rolling with a couple of proven vets is way better than twiddling your thumbs and ending up with a whole lot of nothing.
But if you’re thinking that Brian Daboll and his crew are satisfied with Winston and Wilson, just give yourselves another shot. Yeah, we’re talking about the Giants’ No. 3 pick in April. The odds favor the Giants who are still in pursuit of a rookie QB. And that’s not good news for Wilson, considering the veteran is looking to start. As per NFL draft scout, Matt Miller, “I’m hearing quarterback (when asked what will the Giants do at 3), even after signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal.”
“A scout told me, ‘New York loving Shedeur is the worst-kept secret in the league right now.’ According to that scout, the Giants had a presence at every Colorado home game this season. The Wilson and Jameis Winston deals shouldn’t prevent the Giants from drafting a quarterback at No. 3 if one of the top two passers is available.” That’s the real game, folks. It’s a race. Titans are sitting at the top, eyeing the top draft prospect, Cam Ward.

But down to the No. 1 overall pick? The Browns and the Giants are fighting to draft Sanders. In the meantime, the New York team can just hope that the Browns either draft Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter instead of Sanders. But one thing’s for sure…two things, to be precise. For starters, Sanders’ stocks are skyrocketing at this point, and the Giants’ QB room is probably tense right about now.
