The NFL is all about quick flips—just ask the Cleveland Browns, masters of keeping fans on their toes. While their standings this season are best described as a ‘hot mess’, the real drama is on offense—or what’s left of it. In a bold move, they’ve fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and O-line coach Andy Dickerson, clearly looking to spark some life into a unit that’s been flatter than a soda left open overnight. Change is in the air, folks. Whether it’s for better or worse? Well, that’s a question only Cleveland can answer.
The offense was so poor that even the Browns’ guard, Joel Bitonio, didn’t hold back from criticizing it. “It’s the NFL. It’s a tough business. But both those guys worked hard,” Bitonio stated when asked about OC’s and OL coach’s firing. Sure, both the guys worked hard, but at the end of the day, the Browns are eliminated from the playoff contention, and it’s their O-line that played a crucial role in making that happen.

The Browns’ 2024 season started rough and ended even rougher. In Week 1, they stumbled out of the gate with a 33-17 loss to the Cowboys, setting the tone for a year full of heartbreak. Fast forward to Week 18, and it’s déjà vu all over again—a crushing 35-10 defeat at the hands of the Ravens to cap things off. Sure, there were moments of hope, but a 3-14 record doesn’t leave much room for celebration. In the AFC North, the Browns were less of a contender and more of a conversation starter—for all the wrong reasons.
As things stand, the Cleveland team is in need of some heavy updates in this O-line. Not to mention Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury that worked as a fuel to the fire. But guess the Browns are already on their concerns, and it seems like these firings of the OC and the OL coach are their first step.
Though they’ve wrapped this season, what are they taking with them on their way out? It’s the 15.2 points per game, the lowest in the points score among the teams, and 300.8 yards per game. And that’s not it from their side. Let’s not forget the turnover margins and third down percentage, which are -14 and 29.3%, respectively.
“You know, 3-14 and the offense underperforms to that level. You know I think he’d look at and think, and you know get them fired in those situations,” Bitonio further said. As it appears, the offense was not good enough at the end of the day, according to Joel.
Joel Bitonio will embrace Deshaun Watson as the starting QB
If we take a look at the Browns‘ book this year, surely, we’re gonna find so many chapters of how their offense underperformed. But let’s not forget the QB Deshaun Watson’s season-ending injury, right? Though the QB didn’t make any changes while being on the roster, who knows the scenario if the injury was not the case?

But the Browns’ guard is hoping for his return as Joel Bitonio also spoke about the QB and said, “We know he’s working hard to come back from the Achilles injury, and if he’s our starting quarterback next year, I think coach Stefanski, the offensive coordinator whoever that is has made that choice because he gives us the best chance to win.” Seems like Bitonio is ready to embrace him as the starting QB if it goes that way.
Watson started all seven games that he played but managed to take his team home only one time. And what happened next? The Cleveland team couldn’t come out of that 1-6 setback in the initial 7 weeks of the season. Now here we’re with 3-14 which is somehow their worst season than their winless 2017 season.

Alas, a season full of embarrassing moments finally comes to an end, and the fans can now take a sigh of relief. Meanwhile, the QB, Watson, rehabbed his Achilles tear and is expecting a speedy recovery. Overall, it’s a wrap for the Browns side.
