Undoubtedly, Shedeur Sanders is the most talked-about prospect in this year’s draft. The Cleveland Browns hold the No. 2 pick; hence, there is speculation. Are the Browns looking at Sanders as their future QB, or is another plan in the works? A Cleveland insider just dropped a major clue.

Cleveland Browns analyst Tony Grossi isn’t sure if the team will pass on QB Shedeur in the draft. In a recent interview with ESPN Cleveland, Grossi said, “I’m not ready to say they’ll pass on him. I’m not convinced of it. I think he’s still an option, and they have a pro day coming up.” The Browns need a quarterback, but will that be Sanders, Grossi still doubts that. However, we are yet to witness the Pro Day, which is on April 4.

The conversation was not only about Sanders. “If they pass on him, that means they never considered him a top-20 or top-16 quarterback. And the guy they’re going to take is closely ranked to him,” Grossi explained. But is the quarterback position the only requirement for the Browns? The answer was obvious “points”. “They need a wide receiver,” the interviewer said. Grossi added, “Travis Hunter is also going to be at that April 4th pro day.” So, it may happen that while everyone is thinking of Sanders, the Browns are looking for a different player. Only April 4 holds the answer, whether Hunter is the real target or not.

They definitely need to strengthen their signal caller wing. Their current QB Deshaun Watson has failed to impress in past three seasons. His injuries limited him to 19 games overall with 3,365 yards and 19 touchdowns. If they sign Sanders it will be great, but some comments on Grossi’s interview suggested another name: Russell Wilson. With the draft a month away, even Russ couldn’t escape the conversation.

Russell Wilson trade buzz intensifies

Russell Wilson is again in free agency talk, with one team considering him as a starter. The Cleveland Browns, stuck in a QB situation, are reportedly keeping an eye on him. Not just him. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says the Browns are also keeping Carson Wentz as a backup plan. As things with Watson weren’t great, Cleveland had no choice but to explore cheaper alternatives.

A big piece of the puzzle is the Browns’ draft strategy. With the No. 2 pick, they’re in a prime position to get Shedeur Sanders, and many already see him as the Browns’ future QB. If they draft him, Wilson could serve as a short-term bridge to help him adjust. However, the problem is Deshaun Watson’s massive contract. They might be stuck with him, and carrying three starting QBs wouldn’t make much sense either. If they bring in Wilson, they need to be sure he can handle the situation.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Shedeur Sanders be the Browns' savior, or is Russell Wilson the safer bet?

Money is another issue. The Browns already handed Myles Garrett a massive four-year, $160 million deal, locking up their defensive star for the future. Watson’s contract is nearly impossible to escape, leaving the team with limited cap space. This makes Wilson somewhat appealing, as he wouldn’t break the bank and could at least bring stability. However, after his ups and downs in Denver, it’s questionable whether he would be a significant upgrade over the Browns’ other low-cost options.

Right now, every team in the QB market is waiting to see where Aaron Rodgers ends up, as it will influence Wilson’s next move. If the Browns draft Sanders, Wilson might have to accept a mentor role. But if they pass on Sanders, he could be their best shot at fixing the QB situation.
