Where a usual athlete retires before turning 35 on average, Aaron Rodgers is still in the game despite being 40. The quarterback’s contract with the New York Jets will not end until 2025. Since he skipped the last season because of an Achilles injury he endured during one of the 2023 games, Rodgers is back in full swing this time. Although this is good news for most of his fans, staying in the NFL despite his growing age has subjected him to lot of criticism.
Now that he is back to play alongside his fellow Gang Green members, one of his former teammates has a message for him before the New York Jets kick off a new NFL season for themselves. This old friend is none other than Marshall Newhouse.
During a recent edition of Gojo and Golic, Marshall Newhouse shared his thoughts on the upcoming Jets vs 49ers match on September 9th. Rodgers is returning to the gridiron after resting during the entirety of the 2023 season. Newhouse discussed the return scenario and had a message for his former teammate.

“Brother, you are 40, it’s time. There’s nothing else. I don’t care,” said the former Offensive Tackle. “It’s go time. The clock’s ticking.” Newhouse later claimed that he was being respectful about the situation. Since the two have played alongside each other in the Green Bay Packers for multiple seasons between 2010 and 2013. Newhouse wishes the best for his old pal. They even won a Super Bowl together in 2011, which may get recreated this year for New York Jets.

Rodgers may withdraw his name from the league and retire for good after that. So, Marshall’s suggestion may not be in complete vain. But this ongoing season, he seems to be in full spirits. So far, Rodgers is heading strong into the season opener. Unfortunately, one of his teammates probably won’t join the defensive lineup for the coming match.

Aaron Rodgers’ teammate still hasn’t made up his mind
Haason Reddick is holding out his contract as of late. He has missed the pre-season games and wasn’t seen at training camps either. One of the alleged reasons is his dissatisfaction with the ongoing contract at the New York Jets which is growing common among NFL athletes. The team’s star linebacker has been silent since then. Even fans are unsure about his moves. Although he could show up naturally after the Jets have already played through some of the games, the head coach has revealed that we won’t see Reddick play against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday.
Looks like Reddick’s in for a rough ride, money-wise. Adam Schefter, the NFL insider, just dropped some news about it. He’s saying Reddick’s gonna have to shell out “nearly $800,000 for missing tonight’s regular-season opener vs. the 49ers, and an additional nearly $800,000 for each game he subsequently misses.” And get this – he’s already racked up a $2 million fine for skipping training camp, plus another $5 million in other fines. Talk about a financial nightmare for star linebacker.

Aaron Rodgers is pretty much in charge of scoring points during offensive play on the field, but the defensive team would also need to have a strong lineup. With their star linebacker out of the gridiron for now, the 49ers could have an edge over the Jets. Either way, it seems we would have to wait and see the outcome of both these things. Let’s hope that we don’t hear about another injury for the 40-year-old quarterback this season.
