“They’re gonna take a quarterback in back-to-back years.” This bold prediction from James Merilatt about Denver Broncos‘ future. Could we see Russell Wilson, the 9-time Pro Bowler, hoisting the Lombardi Trophy? The Steelers and Denver to reach for another QB1 in Shedeur Sanders?
“Here’s what that has a pretty good chance of happening (Just Russell Wilson’s going to go in the Super Bowl next year) Asked Host “Here’s what else has a good chance. Bo Nix is going to be Josh Rosen. Shedeur Sanders becomes Kyler Murray. That’s what’s going to happen.” Merilatt speculated during an interview with Denver Sports Coffee break session.
Wilson, after his Denver disappointment saw 287 total points and just 16.9 points per game “The league’s worst scoring offense” in 2022. The veteran with 43,653 career passing yards and 334 touchdowns is hoping for better in the Steel City. Under the coach Mike Tomlin, Wilson could recapture his glory days by slinging dimes to threats like George Pickens.

As Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson proclaimed on Night cap livestream yesterday, “Russell, not losing that spot. Too much talent to ride on…Good coach, great coach. Great supported cast, he gonna be fine.”
For the 34-year-old Wilson, it’s a chance in Denver. Under Tomlin’s guidance, he could thrive as Pittsburgh’s beloved.
While Russell aims high, Sean Payton has his sights set on Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur. The young slinger was a “dual-threat” force at Colorado. Throwing for 3,230 yards with 27 TDs and just 3 interceptions. Despite being under constant pressure behind an underperforming O-line that surrendered 56 sacks for nearly 500 yards.
As CBS Sports stated, he’s “an extremely accurate passer” who “does a great job of manipulating the safeties and can make the tight-window throws necessary at the next level.” His father Deion insisting “[Shedeur] will be a top-5 pick.” Shedeur is currently the +100 favorite to be the No. 1 overall pick according to DraftKings.
The risky gamble on Bo Nix
The 2024 draft pick Bo Nix might fail to live up to the hype in Denver. So far, the former Auburn standout has shown flashes of “farther along than most would be” potential, per Payton’s praise. But projecting QBs to the pros is a cautionary tales like Josh Rosen, who was drafted 10th overall by the Cardinals in 2018 only to flame out after three seasons. JaMarcus Russell, the #1 pick in 2007 who became one of the biggest draft busts ever.

If Nix falters, it could leave Denver’s quest for an elite QB stuck in neutral. With ownership anxious to deliver a championship, Payton may opt to cut bait quickly and roll the dice on Sanders.

Drafting Shedeur wouldn’t just net the Broncos a trophy. With Deion mentoring him, the sky’s the limit for Shedeur’s potential. For a franchise desperate to recapture its glory years, Sanders could be the ultimate to get Mile High Stadium buzzing again.
With Russell Wilson and Shedeur Sanders potentially on a collision course, we could be in for one of the wildest “You Can’t Script It” NFL stories in recent memory.
