You can always expect some juicy statements from coaches and GMs at the NFL Scouting Combine. This year is no different -the coaches and GMs are coming in hot. They’re talking about the ultimate comebacks for their teams. So, in Tuesday’s episode, we have Broncos GM George Paton dropping some interesting tidbits about what’s coming for the Broncos this season. George talked about the team’s needs and how they’re building around Sean Payton’s vision.
And it sounds like the Broncos are ready to shake things up this coming season. Speaking of Sean Payton, the HC also casually slipped in an update about Bo Nix’s injury status, but more on that later.
So, what’s the tea? Well, George Paton has his eyes on this year’s draft. And he knows exactly what he’s looking for, a “Loch Ness Monster“ of football players. Umm… yes, that’s a mythical creature said to have lived in Scotland. But George wants those qualities in a player. “It’s kind of like the Loch Ness Monster of trying to find a ‘Joker.’ I’ve played Sean’s teams that have had them, and they’re hell,” Paton said. What he means is that the team is looking to add a versatile, do-it-all back to the roster.

GM George Paton on team’s ‘Joker’ need: “It’s kind of like the Loch Ness Monster of trying to find a ‘Joker.’ I’ve played Sean’s teams that have had them, and they’re hell. So a lot of different backs. I think it’s a good year to maybe go get back because there are so many.”

So, the Broncos will be looking to pick a running back this season to strengthen their offense. “A lot of different backs. I think it’s a good year to maybe go get a back because there are so many,” added Paton. He also talked about RB Javonte Williams, who will be a free agent in March. Javonte’s contract extension is being given less priority than the other RBs on the team, but Paton shared, “There’s a chance we bring Javonte back, and I think Javonte is one of the best pass protectors in the league.” So, they might still offer him a deal. And why not? The RB had quite a fair season in 2024. He had 4 touchdowns for 513 yards and 139 carries.

Looks like the Broncos are sorted about their RB. Moving ahead, HC Sean Payton has dropped an update about QB Bo Nix.
Sean Payton reveals Bo Nix’s injury
The Broncos and John Elway spent years regretting not picking Josh Allen back in 2018 -until last season. The team has finally found its long-term answer in young QB Bo Nix. The Broncos made it to the Wild Card Round under Nix this season. And interestingly, the team they were facing in that game was Josh Allen’s Bills -Elway’s two choices going head-to-head. Allen and the Bills swept the Broncos with a 31-7 win.

But you have to give the Broncos’ QB his flowers. The 25-year-old, in his rookie season, racked up 3,775 yards and had 29 TDs to his name. And now, HC Sean Payton has shared an interesting tidbit about the QB at the NFL Scouting Combine. He revealed that Bo Nix was dealing with turf toe at one point during his rookie season. Although, Payton didn’t specify when it happened or how long Nix struggled with it. But looking at the numbers the rookie put up, you’d never guess he was dealing with any sort of injury.
Nix underwent ankle surgery in mid-February as well. And according to reports, he has already returned to his offseason practice. So that’s good news for the Broncos. Now, with Nix back in top shape and the team hunting for their “Loch Ness Monster,” it’ll be interesting to see how things unfold for Denver in the upcoming season.
