Last offseason was a crucial time for Brock Purdy as he used it to focus on his growth and improvement. He really needed it. The QB was recovering from elbow surgery and trying to get in shape before the 2024 season. So he traveled to Jacksonville, Florida, where he participated in a demanding workout that was specifically designed for quarterbacks. He trained alongside Caleb Williams. But it seems he is taking things easy this offseason. Hey, that’s what the Purdy family’s latest update suggests!

The 49ers QB hit the golf course with his younger brother, Chubba, and their mom, Carrie. Their mother posted a wholesome Instagram story of the boys holding their golf clubs, captioning it:

My Purdy Boys! ❤️🥰.” We all know Brock Purdy can sling a football, but now he is out here testing his skills on the fairway. However, this is not the first time he has shown interest in the sport. Let us go back to May 2024. It was the 49ers Foundation’s Golden Getaway Weekend and many familiar names in the NFL took part in the Celebrity Golf Tournament presented by Chevron, raising $2.5 million for the benefit of the Bay Area youth. Notable names included Jerry Rice, Patrick Willis, Brock Purdy, coach Kyle Shanahan, and many more.

“Our impact would not be possible without the unwavering support of the Faithful, 49ers ownership, our players, legends, and leadership,” the 49ers Foundation Executive Director Justin Prettyman stated. It was a successful event, but do not assume Purdy’s golf connection ends here.

Did you know that TaylorMade Golf (a sports equipment company) has a golf ball named after the 49ers QB? It is called the Brock Purdy TP5x Golf Balls and, as per their website: “Rooted in sports and competition, this unique collaboration lets you put your favorite NFL player on your favorite golf ball.”

That being said, Purdy is not the only NFL player who plays golf as a hobby. Aaron Rodgers, a veteran football player, loves golfing and has a 4 handicap. He participates in celebrity pro-am events. Back in 2022, he played in ‘The Match’, sinking a clutch putt as he and his partner Tom Brady (8 handicap) defeated Josh Allen (9 handicap) and Patrick Mahomes.

Then we also can’t forget Mahomes who participated in ‘The Match’ twice and won it in 2023 with his Travis Kelce. However, did you ever wonder why so many football players love golfing? Here is the reason explained:

Remember the time the 49ers’ George Kittle was ringside at WrestleMania 39? No, he was not just a spectator, instead, he went inside the ring and taunted The Miz. The wrestler pushed the NFL player, who in turn, hopped over a barricade, and ran toward The Miz to clothesline him. He then positioned the wrestler in a way where Pat McAfee could land a move from the top rope.

Later that day, 49ers general manager John Lynch later texted Kittle, “Hope you had fun. Don’t do that again.” (Kittle had not informed his team about his WWE stint.)

And that’s the tightrope that NFL players must walk in order to avoid any injuries during the offseason. In fact, the league’s contract states that guaranteed pay will be voided if the players get injured while participating in high-risk activities. And that’s where golf comes in. It is a sport that NFL players can engage in without the big risk of injuring themselves.

Well, while Purdy is enjoying some quiet time playing golf, there is something looming in the background. It is his NFL contract.

Bag alert: Brock Purdy’s contract talks are getting so real!

Brock Purdy and the 49ers are officially in contract talks, and let’s be real—he is about to secure the bag. GM John Lynch spilled the tea at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, saying, “We have started negotiations. We’re talking. I won’t go into negotiations like always is our stance. I want Brock to be our quarterback as long as we’re here and beyond.”

Basically, the 49ers want to lock him in, but it’s not a done deal just yet. But right now, Purdy is still on his rookie contract, set to make just $5.26 million next season—aka chump change for a starting QB who just took his team deep into the playoffs. As per the current NFL collective bargaining agreement, “a rookie contract for a drafted rookie may not be renegotiated, amended or altered in any way until after the final regular season game of the player’s third contract year.”

The 49ers know they have to give him his money. But Lynch also made it clear there’s no guarantee they get the deal done this offseason. Translation? The waiting game continues.

The tricky part? The 49ers have already spent big on guys like Nick Bosa, Trent Williams, and Christian McCaffrey, so the salary cap is looking really tight. They need to be smart about how they make this work—giving Purdy his well-earned payday while keeping the squad stacked. It’s a delicate balance, and how they play it could define the team’s future for years. What do you think?
