The Eagles were dubbed the underdogs for the 49ers game. A claim that sounded firm by the end of the fourth quarter as the scoreline finished 19-42. But there was a real underdog that many people missed before the game and are overwhelmed now that it’s done. It’s 49ers QB Brock Purdy.
Jalen Hurts is loved and adored at Philadelphia, but Purdy could be what the team needs to cover the jump final hurdle of the Super Bowl. And it’s not just us, an entity whose heart and soul revolves around the Eagles, thinks the same too. He has a special compliment to share for the young QB.
“Brock Purdy would be a god in Philadelphia”, claims Mike Sielski

“Hurts is admired and beloved here, but Brock Purdy would be a god in Philadelphia.” This is what the columnist from The Philadelphia Inquirer had to write about the QB. If someone didn’t already know, the 2022 Mr. Irrelevant single-handedly trounced the reigning NFC champions. His 4 touchdown passes themselves accounted for 24 out of 42 points the 49ers scored in the game.
Despite falling on the bitter side of things, the Philly fans and pundits were impressed with the QB’s display. Sielski is one among them, who threw him a special compliment in his column.

The columnist further praised the QB for his elite, league-leading statistics. “The last player picked in the 2022 draft, leading the league in completion percentage, passer rating, and yards per attempt, throwing 19 touchdown passes and just six interceptions?” Sielski could barely believe what he was seeing. For context, Purdy stands at 9.6 yards/attempt, 70.2% pass completion, and 116.1 average passer rating, all of which are distant top in the season.
So it turns out, that the columnist’s surprise isn’t void at all. If the season is rewound by a few weeks, a near-repetition of the story can be found, further standing as a testament to Purdy’s excellence.
Brock Purdy: The Mr. Irrelevant who never was

In the NFL match week six, the Cowboys thought they had the past year’s NFC runner-ups under control after demolishing the Patriots 38-3. But in the game, the 49ers QB had their numbers. His own numbers reached 17-24, 252 yards for 4 touchdowns with a galactic 144.4 passer rating, which was eventually bettered during the Eagles game with a 148.8 rating. And the 42-10 loss was the worst the Cowboys have suffered in a long time.
To some extent, Purdy emulates Tom Brady quite a bit. Both were lower picks in their respective NFL drafts, and both have flourished in their second seasons. Additionally, Purdy is approaching the postseason flying with confidence, and possibly eyeing a maiden Super Bowl glory like Brady had in 2001. It might still be a bold comparison to make between the two, but let’s not make the same mistake we were talking about earlier.

Never, ever count out Brock Purdy as an underdog. Especially one who has come out of the ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ to lead the league with domination. Mike Sielski has already realized it, and the rest should too.
