Brock Purdy’s life events are well-suited for a film script. From being selected as “Mr. Irrelevant” at the last pick of the 2022 NFL draft to hearing his name chanted by fans in the stadium, his story is nothing short of a fairy tale. That’s why his fans, team, the entire family, and especially his parents, Shawn Purdy and Carrie Purdy, are super proud of the quarterback.
Purdy’s journey began with the San Francisco 49ers in 2022. However, that year ended badly, as he tore his right UCL in the 2023 NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Since then, he has been facing backlash, and even though he led his team to Super Bowl LVIII this time, the criticism seems not to be ending soon. However, the people who know him and believe in his game are proud of Purdy. Among these well-wishers are his parents.

Brock Purdy’s parents, Shawn Purdy and Carrie Purdy, have been there for him since the beginning, from watching him play football for the first time to now ruling the league among the top quarterbacks. Although Shawn hails from Florida and Carrie from California, the couple decided to build their family in Phoenix. Currently, they run their own pool business: the Fantastic Spa Outlet.
Shawn, a right-handed pitcher drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1987, was an MLB player for eight seasons. He played for various teams throughout his career, making significant contributions, “starting 70 and saving 40 games.” The family’s connection to strong athletic programs in the area became a boon for Brock and played a crucial role in Brock’s rapid ascent in his football career.
The Purdy couple has three talented kids: their eldest daughter, Whittney, played softball at Southeastern University, while Brock and Chubba, the middle and the youngest sons, respectively, are both football players. Chubba currently serves as the quarterback for the University of Nebraska.
During most of the 49ers’ games, Brock’s proud family comes to cheer for Purdy, who wears jersey No. 13 to honor his dad and his favorite athlete.

There is an emotional and proud story behind Brock Purdy’s jersey number selection. Although Purdy is currently with the 49ers, the athlete grew up with a fan love for the Miami Dolphins because of his father, Shawn Purdy. Shawn has been a longtime fan of the Phins, and it was on December 27, 1999, when Miami, led by Dan Marino, was playing, that Brock was born.
The father and son often watched the Hall of Famer Marino’s prime period in the league to enhance Purdy’s game. After entering the league later, Purdy chose the number 13 jersey, the same as Marino, to honor the HOF athlete and his father. Interestingly, there was a time when Brock met Marino in person in a special interview set via the NFL. He humorously shared his father’s favorite joke: “My dad always said I got to see you play the day I was born.“
