The 49ers cannot afford any injuries right now. They’re already at the bottom of the division. Isaac Guerendo was ruled out of the game in the last quarter, and at one point in time, the same should have been Brock Purdy’s fate after he took a brutal hit from a Bears defender. The QB was tackled mid-air and it was painful to watch.
That was a nasty hit and looked like something out of WWE. The Bears defender grabbed him by the helmet and put him down. It looked like the Bears defenders were trying to break Purdy in half. There was roughing the pass penalty on the play, and Purdy had to take a breather.
“The message was we need to play with more of a sense of urgency and play desperate,” is what George Kittle said after the game, and it applies to Purdy perfectly. He didn’t stay out for long and returned to the game with a “sense of urgency.” The QB addressed the injury in the post-game, saying he hadn’t experienced anything like this in his football career.

“It was just a weird hit… for me, I’ve never been in a situation like that, so I was sorta in shock. I felt some stuff within my body so I let myself cool down. That’s why I came out for a play… I was fine, my body was good,” Purdy said in the post-game presser.
Though Brock Purdy‘s injury doesn’t seem to be a big deal right now, and that’s because he’s been cautious. Things have been hectic for him because, coming into the game, Purdy’s been through several MRI tests following the game against the Seahawks. It was okay for a while till he felt like something was off during practice and got a second MRI done, which revealed nothing significant.
#49ers Brock Purdy on the hit that took him out of the game for a play:

He missed the next game against the Packers, which was also a loss, and was then hurled to play against the Bills at Highmark in freezing cold. But he didn’t seem to be showing signs of discomfort, though that later quarter hit could have messed him up. He stayed locked in, didn’t throw a pick, and didn’t get sacked more than once.
The threw for 325 passing yards and two touchdowns. A TD pass to Jauan Jennings at the beginning of the game and another one to Jennings, again, with 7:40 remaining in the second quarter. What’s even better is the fact that the Niners won without Christian McCaffrey, Nick Bosa, Trent Williams, or Jordan Mason. Despite bouncing back after major setbacks, the win isn’t the one to celebrate. That’s because they just took another major hit following the win against the Bears.

The Niners roster worsens
San Francisco lost their third running back to an injury on Sunday. Isaac Guerendo injured himself in the fourth quarter and didn’t return. He was deemed questionable to play. This is especially bad since Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason are also on IR right now. That puts a considerable amount of responsibility on pass-catching specialist Patrick Taylor’s shoulders.
Before leaving the game, Guerendo amassed 78 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns while also contributing 50 receiving yards. Kyle Shanahan revealed the injury to be a foot sprain but was unsure of anything more than that. “Possible foot sprain,” Shanahan said via David Bonilla of 49erswebzone.com. “X-rays didn’t for sure show anything, so we’ll have to look into it more tomorrow.”

Patrick Taylor took over Guerendo and scored a touchdown with 5 minutes in the last quarter, extending the lead to 31-6. They are up against the Rams in the next game. They need Guerendo to play against the Buffalo Bills for sure. Since Cooper Kupp and Puca Nacua are back and playing with all pistons firing, it’ll be quite a challenge for the Bay Area team.
