Let’s go back to the 2023 NFL season for a second. Remember how Patrick Mahomes injured his right ankle in the AFC Divisional Round victory over Jacksonville? Well, it aggravated during the Chiefs’ AFC Championship game against the Bengals. But did the quarterback stop? Of course not. After all, he had to lead the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. But before the Eagles closed out the first half with a 24-14 lead, Mahomes limped off the field. Andy Reid looked worried, and so did the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes, on the other hand? He had an MVP title to win.
Running back onto the field in the second half, he spearheaded the Chiefs’ comeback to win his second Super Bowl. It’s safe to say that making comebacks when he’s injured has become something of a trademark for Mahomes. Because that’s precisely what he did in Week 9 against the Buccaneers this season. In the fourth quarter, the signal-caller appeared to have injured his ankle. He may have limped off, and Andy Reid may have asked him to sit out. But Mahomes was having none of it. He got back on and fought till the end to win in overtime. It makes you wonder: What is the secret to his resilience?
Well, the answer to that might just lie in his lifestyle off the field. It’s all thanks to a healthy lifestyle and some clever tricks from his wife, Brittany Mahomes.

Brittany is shaking up pregnancy norms with her bold dietary advice, which she shared on her Instagram Story. Expecting her third child with Chiefs superstar QB, Mrs. Mahomes shared her unique perspective on nutrition via an Instagram story. “Do the opposite of what the government recommends,” the picture she shared read, flipping conventional health guidelines on their head. From encouraging moms-to-be to “eat 3 to 6 eggs daily,” “cook with butter,” and “salt everything,” Brittany is anything but typical.
Challenging the usual restrictions on red meat and dairy, Brittany doubled down, urging her followers to “eat steak daily” and include yogurt in their meals. Whether her unconventional approach will catch on is up for debate, but she clearly is breaking some norms! But that’s not all; not only is the WAG enriching her own life, but also helping Mahomes get over his “horrible” diet…
Like a doting partner, the former soccer player revealed the huge lifestyle change that Patrick Mahomes. On the “WHOOP” podcast, when asked if her diet is better than her husband’s, Brittany replied, “Oh my gosh, me by far…But he’s come a long way … he used to be horrible,” before adding, “When I used to cook for him, I would trick him into [eating] certain things he would never know. I would give him mashed cauliflower and I would tell him it was potatoes, or I would make spaghetti and it would be vegetable noodles and he would have no idea. So, I used to trick him.”
Hilariously, Brittany has also roped in their family’s chef in the plan…“We’ve gotten a chef, so he tries to trick him in ways, but Patrick’s diet and eating has gotten a lot better over the years — for sure.” It seems those small swaps worked wonders, as Mahomes has since adopted a nutritious routine, crucial for bouncing back from injuries. In fact, the quarterback has changed up his pre-game meal, thanks to Brittany’s intervention.
As per the 29-year-old, “He has specific things he eats, yeah. On game day, it’s like a grilled chicken sandwich with French fries and ketchup. I mean, in previous [years], it would be, like, a cheeseburger, but he’s come a long way. “The night before games, he’s not normally home, so he’s at a hotel or at an away hotel. And so, they provide him with dinner. But if he is at home on game day, he gets a grilled chicken sandwich with French fries every day.”
But don’t worry, Mahomes is well aware of Brittany’s contributions as well. In a 2019 conversation (way before the couple tied the knot), he had thanked his future wife and said, “Eating-wise, I’m blessed that my girlfriend is [big on] nutrition so she helps me out with that — she’s [about] fitness.”
Having said that, nowadays, for the mommy-to-be, teamwork is not just on the field but off of it, too, powering one of the NFL’s brightest stars.
