A day ago, Brittany Mahomes asked her one-year-old son, ‘What’s your name?’. And you know, Brittany couldn’t stop smiling after Bronze said his real name on camera. The one-year-old son of a football superstar also showed three fingers when asked about his name, denoting the name Patrick Mahomes III.’ What an adorable moment! But this moment was really special for two reasons. 

One is, obviously, he is just a year old, and it looks cute. But the other reason is scary. Mahomes’ family has been through a lot after the Chiefs superstar’s son was diagnosed with a food allergy. It was October 2024 when they first diagnosed that he had a peanut allergy. But don’t worry, fans. As per Brittany Mahomes’s latest IG post, there is a breakthrough development in the research of that allergy.

The mama of three shared an IG story on April 9, without any caption. It was a post from Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE), a private, non-profit organization working on food allergies. The post says, “Potential new treatment for Peanut allergy moves closer to FDA review.” To go deeper into the update, the post reports that ‘Viaskin’, a skin patch developed by DBV Technologies, uses an innovative approach called epicutaneous immunotherapy (EPIT) to combat allergic reactions. Studies for the treatment – which she even donated too – are still underway, but results of their trials should emerge this year itself. 

Back in 2023, it was reported by People Magazine that the mom of two and drink company OWYN have committed to a six-figure joint matching donation to FARE, with the hope to inspire change in the community. Brittany said. “The ‘I Can’ campaign will help the +85 million Americans impacted by food allergies and intolerances. Supporting and empowering this community will aid in FARE’s transformative work in research, education, and advocacy to improve the quality of life for these Americans.“

The donations were expected to “

fund innovative breakthroughs in food allergy research and treatments” and educate families on food allergen safety. And now, FARE’s developments make for great news for Bronze and the family, since the allergy reactions – which can range from mild to life-threatening – now look to have a light at the end of the tunnel. It truly has been a whole year of concerns and anxiety for Brittany. 

Brittany Mahomes reflects on Bronze’s allergic reaction

In October last year, Brittany and Patrick Mahomes found out about Bronze’s food allergy. She was experimenting with giving different types of foods to her third child when the peanuts shocked her. Sharing that experience, Brittany said, “I was trying out different things with Bronze, and it was our first day with nuts, and it’s just, like, a little packet of powder that you add to his bottle.” It was all good till this point until she realized his body had reacted adversely to it. 

Talking more about that incident, she added, “And so he took his bottle, and then within 30 or so minutes, he became very irritable, very fussy. I took his diaper off, and it was just hives and welts everywhere.” She also said it was the “scariest 30 mins” of her life. Despite having AUVI-Q handy, Bronze was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors managed the situation. Brittany later thanked other moms around her for helping her.

The Mahomes family isn’t entirely unaware of the risks of allergies in young kids, with four-year-old Sterling Mahomes having severe allergies to peanuts, milk, and eggs. “We’ve been aware of Sterling’s allergies since she was an infant. We’ve been learning more along the major childhood milestones and are so grateful to continue to discover helpful resources along the way.” As a result Brittany has been hyper vigilant about the food kept around the house. But with a possible breakthrough on the horizon, she might just get to rest easy.
