On Christmas Day, the Philadelphia Eagles snapped their three-game losing streak by winning big against the New York Giants. Even though the Eagles did not get the blowout win that they had hoped for, they managed to keep an eight-point margin between them and the Giants. As the team poured into the locker room with victorious smiles on their faces, some could see that not everything was right.

Speaking to the media, offensive coordinator Brian Johnson addressed the speculations regarding the “locker room controversy” and defended the protagonist of the controversy – wideout AJ Brown.

When asked about AJ Brown’s conduct in the locker room after the victory over the Giants, OC Johnson said, “He’s having a tremendous year.” He also said that he’s known the player for a long time and he’s one of the best people he knows. And Brown had put up a great show in the Christmas game.

He led the franchise in that game in the receiving yards at 80 on 6 catches. He also broke his teammate, DeVonta Smith’s single-season record for the most number of receptions. Smith’s record was 95, while Brown set the new record at 101. Then what explains his locker room outburst which caused the OC to publicly defend him?

After the game, when reporters questioned Smith, he said that he was not happy with the team’s performance, especially that of the offense. He acknowledged that his team had 11 wins under their belt, but said, “I’m not happy.” When the reporters turned to Brown for his reaction in the locker room, the WR, who is usually very chatty, refused to engage with them. He told them curtly that if he wanted to say something, he would have.

He even said that he was willing to risk a fine by the NFL for not answering reporters’ questions. What explains Brown’s attitude? Perhaps he was unhappy about the fact that he hadn’t scored a single touchdown in the last four games. Or maybe it was because he recorded more than 125 yards in each of his October games, whereas he failed to do so in all of November and December.

The general atmosphere in the Eagles locker room seems to be unpleasant as a few days ago even QB Jalen Hurts told the media, “I don’t think we were committed enough.” Last year this time, the Eagles had secured the number one seed from the NFC, while this year it still isn’t sure. With just one game remaining, can the Eagles turn around their players’ sentiments?
