If any franchise has confused fans about their draft choices, the NY Giants have taken the most U-turns. Rumors predicted Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders to join the NFC East franchise. But things have changed. HC Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen didn’t have the patience to wait till the draft. They went ahead and signed veteran Russell Wilson on a 1-year, $10.5 million contract while Jameis Winston also signed a 2-year, $8 million deal. With these contracts, they have also changed their draft preference.
The Giants are still interested in a quarterback. Even Daboll flew to Colorado to attend a private workout with Shedeur Sanders. It reignited the lost interest in their bond, fueling rumors again that the franchise could go for him. But the owner, John Mara, is staying away from any draft differences. And the front office and the coaching staff are on opposite ends. And they are looking into alternatives as well.
It’s the Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. He played in 2021 for USC, followed by 3 seasons at Ole Miss. In 4 years of college football, he played 45 games (41 starters) with a 28-13 win-loss record. The 6-foot-2, 223 lbs completed 852 of 1307 passes (65.2% completion rate) in 11,970 passing yards, 81 touchdowns, and 27 interceptions. He is also a potential dual-threat QB, with 393 rushes in 1,541 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns.

Jaxson Dart is a name to watch for the #Giants as a trade-up option on Thursday. Sources I touched base with said he’s someone Brian Daboll is high on — most out of QBs other than Cam Ward. Among qualities Daboll values in QBs is toughness. Dart has that.

SNY’s Connor Hughes also predicted that Brian Daboll is interested in the Ole Miss product and tweeted, “Among qualities Daboll values in QBs is toughness. Dart has that.” The only way for the Giants to do this is by trading up. If they draft Abdul Carter as 3rd overall, then Shedeur Sanders could be out of their contention. All his attempts to woo the Giants didn’t pay off.
He wore the custom Giants cleats in his last college game in December. He also praised the Giants’ head coach and said, “He’s a great guy, great coach, and he’s definitely a man of his family, so I like coach for sure.” But the landing spot is quietly slipping away. Everything depends on the combination of the HC-GM. They have to set aside personal differences.
What’s your perspective on:
Are the Giants making a mistake by not committing to Shedeur Sanders as their future QB?

Brian Daboll is working perfectly as a team with the Giants’ GM
Owner John Mara is tired. He is sitting on the sidelines, watching the HC and the GM work out their differences. While talking about the draft process, he referred to the disagreement in their draft preferences. But Brian Daboll also revealed that they always reach consensus through a professional discussion.

He said, “There is really good communication, and not just with the quarterbacks, with each position. It’s okay to disagree. You’re not going to be disagreeable. Everybody has thoughts and opinions of what they evaluate and what they see.” This has helped them get a clear idea for the draft as they reach “a consensus through professional conversations.”
