Brian Callahan felt the pressures of an NFL head coach firsthand. In his first season as the Titans HC, the team is struggling with a 3-11 win-loss record after week 15. The tough changes were expected. Now, ahead of their week 16 matchup against the Colts, they have taken a hard step.
Early in the season, the Titans decided to go ahead with Will Levis as their starting quarterback. They used Mason Rudolph in 3 games too. But mostly, Levis was the HC’s choice. However, he has changed his mind and changed the starting QB. While announcing this move, he said, “At the end of the day, felt like it was the best thing for our team these last few weeks to see what Mason can bring offensively.” That’s the right move too.
After Levis recorded 3 interceptions in 89 yards and 4 turnovers against the Bengals in the week 15 matchup, he was substituted in the game itself. His stats overall are also not very inspiring enough for Brian Callahan to let him continue. Let’s check the stats of both Titans’ QB till week 15.

Player | Games Started | Win-Loss Record | Passes Completed | Passes Attempted | Completion Rate (in %) | Touchdowns | Interceptions |
Will Levis | 11 | 2-9 | 181 | 284 | 63.7 | 12 | 12 |
Mason Rudolph | 3 | 1-2 | 97 | 154 | 63.0 | 6 | 5 |
While his performance has not been good, the Titans HC didn’t downplay Levis’ ability as a quarterback. He only mentioned the need for a change in their lineup and added, “I think I should be very clear about this. This does not mean this is the end of Will’s ability to be a good quarterback. Situationally, in the season, I felt like we needed a spark at the quarterback position.” That’s a signal that even Rudolph needs to perform to earn a permanent place.
While the team is under pressure, their critics are taking shots at them and the HC is trying his best to stand by them.
Brian Callahan defends his team against ‘soft’ remark
When asked if the Titans are playing it ‘soft’, the head coach went on an epic rant that was, “These guys are tough f—— man, they go after it every day, they play hard as hell. At no point have we ever put on a tape at any time this season that this is a soft football team, like, I can’t wrap my head around how that would be a conversation. Just because we don’t win games doesn’t mean we are soft.” However, he can’t stop the comparison.

Not only they have lost 11 of 14 games, but the way they lost has also dropped the morale. They crossed the 30-point mark only once in the 14 games. Against the Lions, they lost by 14-52. It’s beyond explanation for Brian Callahan. But he released his full anger.
While calling out those critics, he added, “There is no possible explanation to say this team is soft in any way, shape, or form mentally or physically. The way they go about their work is insulting to me, to them, and to everyone that works here.” It all depends on how they finish.
