The Buffalo Bills trading Stefon Diggs is a hot topic in the NFL these days. The Buffalo team will receive a 2025 second-round pick via the Vikings while the Texans got Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick. But that’s just business, which is understandable. What didn’t sit well with people in the past couple of days was Brandon Beane’s stance on the trade.

The Bills GM quoted, “I mean, are we better today? Probably not. It’s a work in progress, and we’re going to continue to work on that. I would just hope that people know I’m competitive as hell, and I ain’t giving in,” and the statement sparked a debate around various talk shows. One of them was Speak, hosted by Emmanuel Acho and LeSean “Shady” McCoy.

Brandon Beane should have studied the Andy Reid tapes

James Jones initially pointed out that the Bills GM would have looked bad if he said something along the lines of letting an “All-Pro receiver go,” and the team is still doing better. Instead, Beane said that the team is “probably not” doing better. This jogged Emmanuel Acho’s brain, and he recalled the time when the Kansas City Chiefs let Tyreek Hill go after he helped them win a Super Bowl against the Niners.

Acho backtracked Andy Reid’s statement and quoted him, saying, “This move will also benefit the Chiefs because now we have additional draft picks to go with the football team.” Per Acho, Beane should have taken inspiration from Andy Reid and should have been a bit thoughtful and diplomatic while addressing the media.

He also added that the Bills will have to draft a WR to aid Josh Allen and the new receiver would have less ego than Stefon Diggs, at least in the nascency of his career. McCoy intervened and pointed out how the Chiefs got 5 picks in exchange for Hill and mentioned that Andy Reid had a plan to go along with the trade as well.

Throughout the conversation, it became clear the Bills had to eventually let Stefon Diggs go and there were many reasons behind it.

The toxic relationship between the Buffalo Bills and their WR

By the end of the 2023 season, it became clear as day that Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs didn’t get along with each other. Diggs was pro-active with his stance about him not getting enough targets from the QB. On some occasions he was seen visibly upset and yelling at Josh Allen because things weren’t going as planned.

Also, his brother, the CB for the Cowboys, added fuel to the fire when he said, “Man 14 Gotta get up outta there,” after the Bills lost to the Broncos by a close 24-22 margin. RGIII pointed out that the Bills had a chance of winning a Lombardi if Allen and Diggs stuck together. In the same post a fan commented, “Does Josh benefit from having a top tier receiver, yes. Is he essential to his success, no.?” To which Diggs replied, “You sure?”

It just means that Diggs thinks that he was crucial to the Bills success and there’s no doubt about it. But the WR seems happy to be traded and has now landed in a team that is led by an electric QB who has a zeal to win and experienced offense to guide him. Maybe he can help the Texans chase their playoff dreams this year.
