With George Pickens leading the way, the Steelers wanted Aiyuk as the final piece to complete their offense. By the start of August, reports indicated, the 49ers and Steelers had agreed to the terms of a trade, with the latter “in a good place” regarding a contract offer for Aiyuk. However, the deal still required the 49ers’ final sign-off.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were the last standing in the pursuit of 26-year-old WR. He even identified the Steelers as a preferred destination early on, but the trade hasn’t materialized. The twist? Both Aiyuk and the 49ers weren’t ready to fully part ways. Interestingly, the timeline took an unexpected turn as the wide receiver found his way back to the Niners. The trade rumors began to lose momentum when teams saw their offers in the rearview mirror.
