After Russell Wilson’s expensive exit, the Denver Broncos are in quite a predicament ahead of the 2024 season. The coach, Sean Payton, was disappointed with the veteran’s performance in the last season but now has a room full of rookies at hand. Zach Wilson, Bo Nix, and Jarrett Stidham would be competing for the No.1 position

Payton seems hopeful for the upcoming season, though. Calling them “orphan dogs,” the HC believes in their talent and calls it a “good room.” However, one NFL reporter disagrees with the categorization but also has insights on the silver lining in the situation.

Is Bo Nix the silver lining for the Broncos?

The Broncos’ quarterback room was the topic of discussion on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, where James Palmer had a blunt opinion to share. “Well, he [Sean Payton] says it’s a good room, but let’s first say that it’s early, but this is probably the worst quarterback room in football,” said the reporter. “That can change after this season, but that’s just from the track record of the guys in the room.

However, there is one clear leading man for Palmer. “But the frontrunner is Bo Nix…” The 12th overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft will enter his first season as a professional football player after an impressive record with the Oregon Ducks. “…Because I really do believe, and this is outside of the norm for Sean Payton to play rookies, at really any position,” continued Palmer. “But if you look at everything that’s going on in Denver, the number one thing that they need to figure out this season is if Bo Nix was the right pick at 12. That’s it. That is the point of the 2024 season.

Nix wasn’t the only quarterback who caught Palmer’s eyes, though. “The other part of this that I do find interesting is Zach Wilson.” The former 2nd overall pick had a disheartening season with the New York Jets last year, having to step up in the absence of Aaron Rodgers. Now, in Denver, the young QB gets a second chance to pull himself up under the guidance of a coach like Payton.

Zach Wilson stands out in the OTAs

While Nix seems to be the clear win for the NFL reporter, Payton plans to “rotate” the three inexperienced rookies in the beginning before a starter is decided. “Look, we go by what we see,” said the HC. “We try to get them as many reps as possible. We rotate. We’re rotating all of them right now. So, Tuesday, ‘Stiddy’ ran with the ones, and then Zach, and then Bo. We’ll keep doing that right now.

The OTAs witnessed exactly that, with the three quarterbacks putting their best foot forward. Wilson’s throws not only impressed Palmer but also proved his worth as the 2nd overall pick of the 2021 Draft. “…the arm talent being there on Thursday next to Stidham, next to Bo Nix, was just standing out. -He threw some dimes out there, and I’m just fascinated by his talent winding up with somebody like Sean Payton.
