The NFL world is currently stuck in the work, work, work mode with the trade deadlines ending and NFL Draft up ahead. Every front office is focused on how to improve their team for the new season or better, the future. In fact, the teams that could not do great in the trade just got the confirmed picks from the league. More work! However, not everyone needs to be in that mode, not all the time at least.

For now, it is the Denver Broncos star QB, Bo Nix, who is having some fun. Specifically, in the theme of the current NFL environment. If you’re wondering how, well, the 25-year-old just found a way how he can also make some draft choices of his own. But nothing serious! He just had a “Stadium Foods Draft” with Broncos beat reporter Zac Stevens. And if you thought it was all in absurdity, no sir!

Some real thoughts went into these decisions. However, Bo just revealed something that we don’t think he really wanted to. If full-circle irony is a thing, well, Bo just walked right into one!

During the playful interview, Nix picked a “Crispy Coke” as his fifth and final pick. Subsequently, he was asked, “Will coke be your captain?” Now see, Bo’s reasoning to choose Coke was, “I like it at five because it’s been around the block a long time.” But with the question, he responded, “We’re gonna have to have a team discussion where we get all the players.” To this, his counterparts on the BreadBasket TikTok exclaimed with a hidden smile, “We don’t wanna jump to that. We don’t wanna rush that.” And then?

Nix confidently threw out a take: “You can’t draft a guy and then name him captain. He’s gotta earn that right. He’s gotta wash some things down first and then we’ll see… He could not be captain material. He and frozen lemonade could not get along. That could be an issue… They both want the ball at the end.” Whether he did this intentionally or not, but this is exactly what happened to him in real life. Exactly!

Back in 2024, the Broncos snagged Bo Nix as the 12th overall pick in the NFL Draft. He didn’t just show up—he made an instant impression, earning the respect of the locker room so quickly that his teammates voted him captain before he even played a single NFL snap. That’s a rare flex. In fact, the last Broncos rookie to be named captain? Hall of Famer Floyd Little in 1967. And if you’re thinking there was any official team meeting– Doesn’t seem like it! It was all teammates!

Even Sean Payton had to admit how rare it was. “It’s unusual for a rookie to be named a captain… It’s a credit to him, and I think his teammates felt that he belonged in that position.” Basically, Nix had already won over the squad before even throwing a regular season pass. But making an impact simply in the locker room was not Bo’s plan.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Bo Nix's rookie captaincy a testament to his leadership or just a rare NFL fluke?

Have an interesting take?

If anything, he didn’t take the honor lightly. “It’s an honor. It’s a privilege. I don’t take it lightly. I know it’s a big deal. It hasn’t happened often, but I am not going to take it for granted,” he told the media six months ago. And honestly, he did not take it lightly.

Many would say that Bo Nix had a good rookie season, but some would even agree that it was one of the best seasons for a rookie QB who became the captain and the starter for his team right out the gates. This was especially monumental because going into the 2024 NFL season, multiple outlets ranked him as one of the worst QBs. His Draft was also a reflection of this idea since he got pulled the sixth and last QB in the first round. But he proved his doubters wrong.

In the franchise, he set records with 10 wins, 376 completions, 3,775 passing yards, and 29 passing TDs. As a result, he won Rookie of the Week three times, AFC Player of the Week twice, and October’s Rookie of the Month. If this was not enough, he rewrote history by joining Hall of Famer John Elway (1983) as the only rookie in Denver’s history to start in Week 1 and lead them to a postseason berth.

He ended his rookie year joining some big guns of the sport. He is now one of the only five rookies ever in the league history to post 3,500 passing yards and 25 passing TDs as a rookie. The list includes: Jayden Daniels (2024), Herbert (2020), Mayfield (2018) and Peyton Manning (1998).

Now we don’t know who was lemonade in Bo’s case that he thought did not go well to his Coke, but there is no doubt that this Oregon alum definitely proved his worth.

As for the current fun-filled interview, he was just vibing with Stevens, talking about snacks like they were scouting football prospects. Bo Nix went for the reliable picks—popcorn, pretzels—while Stevens swung big with hot dogs and nachos. They broke it down like an actual draft, debating strengths and weaknesses like they were analyzing film.

The whole discussion was lighthearted, just two guys having fun. There wasn’t any major announcement from Bo Nix or anything. But in the end, it accidentally summed up Nix’s own journey. One minute, he’s joking about leadership in a made-up snack draft. The next, he’s proving on the field exactly why his teammates handed him the captain’s title before he even had to ask for it. But for now, the teams have to prove that they can build a heavy roster for a brighter future with the NFL naming their picks.

Broncos draft picks are set while other teams cash-in

On Tuesday, the NFL just dropped the full list of compensatory draft picks handing out 35 bonus selections to 15 teams that took Ls in free agency the previous year. Basically, if a team lost more key players (Compensatory free agents or CFAs) than they signed, they got a little draft day boost.

As expected, the Broncos didn’t score any extras, but now we know exactly where they’re picking. Denver holds its original picks in the first four rounds: No. 20 (Round 1), No. 51 (Round 2), No. 85 (Round 3), and No. 122 (Round 4). They won’t be making moves in the fifth (sent to Miami) or the seventh (shipped to Philly), but they’ve got three shots in the sixth: No. 191 (via Arizona), No. 197 (their own), and No. 208 (via Philly).

Meanwhile, some teams walked away stacked. The Ravens, Cowboys, and Dolphins each received four extra picks. The Chargers, 49ers, and the Seahawks received three and the Raiders got two late-round picks (Nos. 213 and 215). Bills, Browns, Chiefs, and Raiders have two compensatory picks, and the Packers, Vikings and Giants have one each. The Browns are sitting on a stash of 10 picks total, which is kind of wild.

Biggest W? The Vikings snagged a third-rounder (No. 97) after letting Kirk Cousins walk, the Giants got a fourth-rounder (No. 99) for Xavier McKinney, and the Rams walked away with a third-rounder (No. 101). Even the Packers squeezed in a seventh-rounder (No. 250).
