“I know people are going to be upset about it, but for him, Ashley, and their kids, you can’t argue with that decision. I can’t be mad at that,” Bucs QB Baker Mayfield said about Liam Coen ditching the team’s offer and then joining the Jaguars. The day the news broke, it created a frenzy in the NFL world. The Bucs were ready to pay anything to make Liam stay, and reportedly, he had agreed too. But just a few hours later, what we learned is that the 39-year-old was packing his bags for Florida. And now, Coen has been making moves to assemble his coaching staff with the Jaguars.
After hiring Green Bay’s Anthony Campanile as their defensive coordinator, Liam Coen has now made another addition to his coaching staff. Enter Bills’ Matt Edwards, the new defensive line coach of the Jaguars. Matt was serving as the Bills’ assistant defensive line coach before this. After a year of working with Buffalo, he will now be teaming up with Coen and Anthony.

Edwards has been on the Raiders and Titans coaching staff before joining the Bills. He also has more than ten years of high school football coaching experience on his resume as well. His most successful season was with Raiders DE Maxx Crosby in 2023. Edward helped him secure consecutive double-digit sack seasons, including a career-high 14.5. Now, with Anthony, hopefully, he can work the same magic to improve the Jaguars’ defense.
Liam Coen is busy trying to make things right for the Jaguars. But his former team, Tampa Bay, is still not over his ‘Brutus’ move on them. So, to avenge that, the Bucs have blocked the Jaguars from interviewing any of their staff members. As per ESPN, Shad Khan, after taking Liam from Tampa Bay, was eyeing the team’s offensive line coach, Kevin Carberry. But the Bucs said no more. HC Todd Bowles, along with GM Jason Licht, has shown a red flag to any of their coaching members reuniting with Coen.
So now, after filling the defensive line coach spot, the next target is the GM position.

Liam Coen and Shad Khan are now looking for their new General Manager
How far would you go to hire Liam Coen as your new head coach? Shad Khan said he would fire anyone Coen might be hesitant about working with. So, Khan said goodbye to Trent Baalke. When the Jaguars fired Doug Pederson on Black Monday and started their search for a new HC, Baalke seemed like a problem. According to multiple reports, many were hesitant to work with Trent. So, when Shad Khan approached Liam, he initially denied the position.
As soon as the Bucs sensed the Jaguars’ intentions, they made Liam a huge offer. But it all went in vain as Coen chose becoming an HC over becoming the highest-paid OC in the league. So now, Coen is looking for a GM to complete his staff puzzle. And with him in this search, of course, is the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Shad Khan.

“I think that date is February 28; I believe that’s the NFL-mandated. Our priority is to get Liam settled in, have him build his staff, and then start the search. But we’re hoping to be done by that date,” said the Jaguars owner. There is no word on potential candidates or anyone interviewing for the position yet. But one thing is for sure: it will be someone who Liam will approve and be on the same page with.
