Something huge happened in the MLB verse that trickled down to the NFL. Baseball fans are already aware of the World Series Champions, and LA Dodgers, bolstering their team with 2x Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell. They’ve been itching to add an ace to their roster and the day has finally arrived. So, what does this have to do with the NFL, and particularly with Justin Jefferson?

It started with Dov Kleiman’s tweet on X where he asked people to describe the massive signing in football terms. Fans had all sorts of outrageous takes. Including Justin Jefferson and Tee Higgins signing with the Kansas City Chiefs. Imagine how strong Patrick Mahomes’s offense would be if something like that were to happen. Yeah…it’s a distant dream that’s fun to think of. But more about the football world’s ramblings later. Let’s talk about the massive addition to the Dodgers roster.

As if having Shohei Ohtani wasn’t enough. The LA team broke the bank and agreed to a 5-year $182 million deal left-hander. However, the team didn’t break the news yet. Snell has been one of the top free agents on the market this off-season. So going the extra mile to nab him was a no-brainer.  But honestly, nobody has been quite like Snell since 2018.

Jeff Passan of ESPN was one of the people who reported the trade that’s about to happen. He took to X and posted, “Left-hander Blake Snell and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a five-year, $182 million contract, pending physical, sources tell me and @jorgecastillo. The World Series champions get the two-time Cy Young winner in the first nine-figure deal of the winter.”

As stated, the Dodgers haven’t made it official yet, but the ace posted a picture of himself in a Dodgers uniform and shocked the MLB world. Before the Dodgers deal, Snell had a two-year $62 million deal with the Giants that had an opt-out clause, so opt-out he did. The two sides have been negotiating with each other since the free agency opened this month.

Reportedly, LA has been in negotiations with San Francisco since they were knocked out of postseason contention this season. Per MLB, “Snell joins a starting rotation that will feature Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers look to add another starter this winter, with Japanese phenom Roki Sasaki among the many targets. It’s a starting rotation that is expected to be much improved from last season.”

On that note, let’s talk about how the football world is drawing a parallel to this trade.

Fans of Jefferson react to Blake Snell’s signing

Since the Dodgers have become the MLB Avengers now, a fan pointed out how this is similar to “Justin Jefferson to the Chiefs.” Another fan thought “Cooper Kupp to the Chiefs” would hold the same gravity as this huge MLB signing. This other person went crazy on making a fantasy team and thought it would be similar if “Chiefs get Tee Higgins.”

Another fan joked that the signing is equivalent to “Hollywood Brown to the Chiefs.” That’s kind of funny since he hasn’t aided Patrick Mahomes in a single game this season. Another person quipped that “Player picks Chiefs over 49ers” while one doubled down on the narrative that it will be similar to “Jettas [Justin Jefferson] to the Chiefs.”
