When Sean McDermott‘s Bills acquired Joey Bosa, fans might have started visualizing them winning crucial games in the upcoming season. Also after losing to Patrick Mahomes four times in a row, Josh Allen must be looking for a powerhouse teammate to help turn the tide. And guess what? Rumors are already swirling in the city of Buffalo involving two first-round picks.
The NFL Rumors page on X reported on Monday, “The #Bills could potentially explore a trade for #Vikings’ WR Jordan Addison or #Saints’ WR Chris Olave leading up to April’s #NFL draft.” Surprisingly, both wide receivers were first-round picks in their respective draft years. The Vikings selected Jordan Addison as the 23rd pick in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Saints decided in 2022 to pick Chris Olave as their franchise wide receiver. They took him as the 11th pick in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Bills are looking for their own versions of Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in both wide receivers.

After Mack Hollins’s departure to New England and Amari Cooper‘s uncertain return, the Bills reportedly moved forward, looking for anyone from the two first-round wide receivers. To take a closer look at the profile of Jordan Addison, he is in the third year of his contract with the Vikings, whereas Chris Olave is entering the final year of his $19,271,874 four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.
Looking at the stats, Chris Olave played only eight games last season, which explains why he had just 32 receptions on 44 targets for 400 yards. He managed to score only one touchdown, bringing his career total to 10 over three seasons.
As for Jordan Addison, he ranked ninth in the entire league for receiving touchdowns. To achieve that, he recorded 63 receptions on 99 targets, covering 875 yards with an impressive 13.9 yards per reception. With that in mind, the Bills could turn this rumor into reality. But…
There are other options for Josh Allen’s WR position. According to SB Nation, the Bills might push hard to land a top wide receiver from the 2025 NFL Draft. The list includes Tre Harris (Ole Miss), Jack Bech (TCU), Jayden Higgins (Iowa State), Jalen Royals (Utah State), and Isaiah Bond (Texas).
Meanwhile, Buffalo has made another big decision—moving on from running back James Cook. Yes, you read that right. The Bills’ GM has confirmed the move. Let’s break it down.
Josh Allen’s RB is not even close to an extension
In February 2025, James Cook went live on Instagram, but the real highlight was the comments. He pinned a comment that read “15 mill a year,” signaling his desire for a lucrative new deal. Looking at his current contract, Cook signed a four-year rookie deal worth $5,832,057 in 2022. However, due to stalled negotiations, the Bills have decided to move on rather than extend the running back’s contract.

Bills GM Beane told reporters, “His reps have put it out there that we did talk, so that’s not anything new,” when asked about James Cook’s contract extension talks. He also added, “It didn’t lead to anything as far as closing in on a deal, so we moved on to the guys that we were all on the same page with. I don’t see us getting something done anytime soon. We’re onto the draft.” But the GM hasn’t lost hope in Allen’s buddy.
Beane further said, “Just because we don’t get something done this year doesn’t mean we can’t get something done before he’s a free agent.” So, it’s clear. The Bills are not yet signing James Cook’s contract extension. Even after he proved his worth in the previous season.
