Josh Allen‘s MVP win this season did not sit well with many. Everyone thought the Bills QB took the trophy home because people voted for him out of sympathy. And why would people be sympathetic? Well, there could be two reasons. One is that after they lost in the AFC Championship, people brought up the “refs helped the Chiefs win” theory. The second could be that Patrick Mahomes defeated Allen for the fourth time in the playoffs. Honestly, the latter makes more sense if you had to debate why he should not have been the MVP. But whatever the case – he is the MVP for 2024.

And now, Josh Allen has received another honor. But, a former Bills QB, believes the university just handed a prestigious acknowledgment just like that. On Sunday, Built in Buffalo’s official X page shared, “Josh Allen will be inducted into the University of Wyoming Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2025.”

That’s quite an achievement for the Bills QB, a Wyoming alum. But things got interesting when former QB Ryan Fitzpatrick dropped his take. The 42-year-old commented, “They’ll let just about anyone in these days…”

Ryan was also a Bills QB, playing for the team for four seasons from 2009 to 2012. His comment comes as a surprise since he has often supported Josh Allen. Last year, in November, on The Rich Eisen Show, he praised the Bills QB saying, “I’ll say this, Josh Allen is the perfect quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, and it goes well beyond his playing ability.”

Now, whether Ryan just dropped this comment sarcastically to start a little banter with Allen, or if he actually meant it, only he could tell. But with the way people reacted to the NFL giving the MVP to Allen instead of Lamar, one couldn’t help but think it was a jab at the Bills QB. But do give Allen his flowers. He’s had a productive season.

He averaged 3731 passing yards and dropped 28 TDs for the 2024 season. It’s a sensational season for the player and Bills HC defended Josh Allen after criticisms regarding his MVP award.

With Lamar Jackson's superior stats, did the NFL get it wrong by awarding MVP to Josh Allen?

Bills HC defends Josh Allen

The whole world can be against Josh Allen, but Sean McDermott will always have his QB’s back. The season is over. Josh has been named MVP, but the debate will never truly end. People will always keep discussing who the greatest QB is. And everyone has a different way of looking at it. Some measure it by Super Bowl rings, and some look at the stats. And others simply choose based on their favorite player or team.

Looking at the stats, many thought Lamar Jackson should have won it this season. Compared to Allen, he had 4172 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. Those are even more impressive than Allen’s. There’s no doubt about it.

Yet, Bills HC Sean McDermott has an answer for everyone why he thinks Allen deserved every bit of it. So, as Sean took the podium at the NFL Scouting Combine, he gave his QB his flowers.

The way he’s played on the field this season, the way he’s matured off the field, on the field, his decision-making and how that’s improved...when you do that at the level that he did it at on a consistent basis, the result was the MVP, and so to me, as I said during the year, later in the year in particular, he deserved that, every bit of that award,” McDermott said.

Sean has been Josh’s coach since he first stepped on the gridiron wearing the Bills jersey. You could say that Sean has played a major part in shaping Allen’s career as a QB. And as far as people’s opinions are concerned, well, you know they will always have one. Josh has been a spectacular player on the gridiron. The only thing missing from his trophy case now is a Lombardi Trophy.

So, it will be interesting to see if Allen can shut off his doubters and grab a Super Bowl ring next season.
