Last year hasn’t been kind to the Carolina Panthers and in the last game of the season, it hurt the owner as well. Billionaire David Tepper, with his hedge fund, became the owner of the Panthers in 2018 but this is the first time he had a blowout like this. Now, the NFL has reprimanded and fined him.

With the worst record of the season at 2-14. It was a tough outing for the Panthers at the EverBank Stadium, the home of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tepper’s team lost 26-0 and Tepper lost his cool. But the NFL’s fine on his conduct barely puts a dent in his vast net worth.

Rarely does the fine of $300,000 not hurt somebody. But in Tepper’s case, that is exactly the scenario. During the 4th quarter of the game, with his team trailing 23-0, the owner’s frustration was on display. The 66-year-old watching the game from the director’s box threw his drink at a Jags fan. This brought ire to the NFL.

The NFL released a statement, reprimanding and fining Tepper for his behavior. “It fined Carolina Panthers’ chairman David Tepper $300,000 for his unacceptable conduct in Jacksonville during Sunday’s game”, said the statement by the NFL.

Though the monetary loss for Tepper is not huge with his reported net worth of $16.7 billion. The damage this has done to his reputation is extensive. And the NFL believes in curbing this sort of behavior with their extensive statement. But what is Tepper’s response to the entire incident?

The NFL responded with repercussions

“All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL”, said the statement from the league. Though it has been understood that the Jags fan was harassing Tepper, the billionaire came forth with an apology.
