Quarterback! A man who carries the match for his team! A man who has the ability to turn the game around or be the cause of the loss. Due to all of these factors, teams always take their time when selecting a QB. While some have solved their QB problems, others continue to struggle to find a reliable QB. And who better to ask about what to look for in a quarterback than the great head coach, Bill Belichick? And it appears that he has made a suggestion. But he included a subtle jab for his former team too.

The former Patriots GM discussed these topics on the Let’s Go! Podcast. When asked how to pick a quarterback in the NFL, Belichick immediately used the chance to poke at the Jets. The HC began his suggestions by declaring that he would look at the quarterbacks that the New York Jets released. Names like Geno Smith and Sam Darnold, who have already become household names in the NFL, were clearly previously members of the Jets. So just go after what they release. Ouch, that’s bad.

Belichick didn’t stop here. The head coach continued to appreciate Geno Smith, Sam Darnold, and Baker Mayfield. Even calling them not only excellent quarterbacks but also great leaders. And these are the things that the teams mostly look forward to. The HC explained, “Well, you might take a look at the ones that the Jets have released. Geno Smith and Sam Darnold, have done pretty well. I think there are QBs like that you know Mayfield as an example. Geno Smith’s an example. Sam Darnold’s an example.”

But do you know what’s the best part about these quarterbacks? They can all be signed for a considerably lower dollar amount. Consider this: every large team with a big quarterback always offers them a rich contract. Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, and countless others are just a few examples. However, these quarterbacks, such as Darnold, Mayfield, and others, would provide you with performance at a significantly cheaper cost.

They are not demanding a contract worth $50 million per year. However, the plays they make are far more efficient than those that sign a $50 million contract per year. Ouch. Belichick claimed all this stating, “And honestly, the cost on those players are a lot less than some of the guys making in the $50 million range.” Belichick’s definition of what makes a competent quarterback could be useful for many teams. And they should take notes as there will not be a lot of it now that Bill is in the CFB. And there too, he made some terrific pals, including Mack Brown. WHAT? When did this occur?

Mack Brown appreciates Bill Belichick and the UNC program

While it is unusual for Brown to appreciate Bill Belichick considering Belichick replaced him as head coach. Oh, well! It is true! It’s absolutely true. Mack Brown recently spoke with an ESPN reporter about what was his vision for the team’s future. The former HC revealed that he had 2025 planned out before, but the firing occurred unexpectedly. And then North Carolina scored a massive touchdown when they signed Belichick.

Brown was upset, but he was also thrilled for the team. Mack claimed that Bill Belichick is the best coach in the country and that he can teach the kids some great things. And who knows, the next NFL stars could come from the University of North Carolina. Brown explained, “I’m proud of them that they finally committed. And Bill’s one of the best ever. So I’m proud of the kids. I’ve got so many friends there, like I do in Texas. So I’m glad they finally stepped up, and now they should have a chance to compete with the best in the country.”

That’s exactly what an excellent coach should say. Not concerned about his firing, but pleased that his squad would do well. So what are your thoughts? Do you believe Belichick will guide the UNC team to new heights? Or will they not perform well despite having a very good coach?
