Could Bill Belichick be the savior the Cowboys need, or is it just wishful thinking?

The Jets and the Saints have both pulled the plug on their head coaches this season—though one came as more of a shock than the other (and you can guess who). So, of course, all of us fanatics are asking: Who’s next? When you look at it, one big contender is the $11 billion Cowboys (the most expensive franchise, you say?). With a rough 3-6 start, they’re not exactly living up to “America’s Team” status. So, despite Jerry Jones’ full faith in his HC, Mike McCarthy might be skating on thin ice. But here’s where things get juicy—two big names are swirling around as potential replacements: Bill Belichick and Deion Sanders.

The whole Deion-to-the-Cowboys talk? Well, that might’ve started with fans and social media before it ever hit Jerry Jones’ radar. But once it did, it picked up steam. As Kyle Koster pointed out, “There’s a chicken-and-egg nature to all of this…because it only takes a tiny sliver of momentum to Astroturf something into existence.” Sure, Sanders himself hasn’t given an ounce of credibility to this buzz. And why would he? CU Buffs are going ham with a 7-2 start, and boy, are they enjoying every bit of it.

But the media’s got a way of creating a circus even if the ringleader isn’t buying tickets. Would it be wild to see Coach Prime take the Cowboys’ reins? Definitely. But right now, that’s all it is—a media creation. So, you can understand why there would be a buzz killer. And the buzz killer for the whole Deion-to-Dallas talks? Yeah, none other than Bill Belichick.

After a legendary 24-year run and six Super Bowl rings with the Patriots, Belichick is reportedly looking for one more shot at greatness. Plus, he needs just 15 more wins to break Don Shula’s all-time wins record. So, maybe he’d be open to a team with a talented roster that just needs a new leader. And here’s the thing the 72-year-old wants the action in 2025. “He’s fully invested. He wants to coach again.” This is what NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero said about Bill’s chances of a return to the sidelines.

So, you can understand why Big Bill might seem like more than just a dream. Sure, he has multiple broadcasting gigs going on—making appearances on the Pat McAfee Show to the ManningCast and his own podcast (how can we forget that)—where his analysis is much valued. But Dallas needs those X’s and O’s on the gridiron more than we do on our screens.

What’s your perspective on:

Could Bill Belichick be the savior the Cowboys need, or is it just wishful thinking?

Have an interesting take?

And if you’re Jones, can you resist the allure of bringing a legend like Bill Belichick into the fold? Of course, Belichick comes with his own set of demands. But maybe, just maybe, the 72-year-old could live with the Cowboys setup since it’s been established for so long. And he might be the only willing option right now.

Deion Sanders backing out to leave the Cowboys with Bill Belichick

Let’s be honest, as much as these rumors fly, Deion Sanders isn’t interested in the NFL life—he’s said it loud and clear, and he’s sticking to his word. Coach Prime is keeping his focus right where it is, away from the Cowboys and the NFL spotlight.

“I don’t have any desire or ambition to coach in the NFL,” he said back in June. He’s all about holding players accountable, and he feels his “old-school attributes” might clash with today’s NFL culture. So, folks, if you were hoping to see Sanders in Dallas shouting yeehaw, we rather suggest you watch his glory days in Folsom Field instead.

Coach Prime’s got something special brewing in Boulder. He’s cooking college football with Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter and potential stars like Julian Lewis on the horizon. So, there’s absolutely no reason for Sanders to leave this dream team just yet. And it’s exactly what he said: “I love it where I am,” while showing off his view of Folsom Field.

Fans in Colorado couldn’t be happier. And who better than a lifelong Buffs fan to speak on the matter? Terry Coleman told FOX31 he’s hoping Sanders stays put: “There’d be so many fans devastated… we’d like Coach Prime to build on what he’s accomplished so far.” With the Buffs sitting at 7-2 and second in the Big 12, Sanders’ vision for this team is already paying off.

Now, looking forward, who’s left on the Cowboys’ radar? Enter Bill Belichick. Sure, he might have a different vibe, but would Cowboys fans hate it? Probably not. With a career record of 333-178 (add 31 playoff wins to it), Belichick brings a pedigree that’s hard to ignore. And as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, he could just be the experienced leader Dallas needs to shake things up.

So, if the Cowboys are indeed left with Belichick, that’s not exactly settling. It might just be a championship-caliber pivot.
