You know that feeling of regret when we miss out on something we could have had? It’s one of those feelings that stays with you, making you wonder if it could have been different. And even one of the best coaches in history can do that. Wondering who this head coach might be? Well, it’s none other than the Patriots’ savior, Bill Belichick.

Even the best make mistakes! One of the most talked-about draft decisions in NFL history is when Bill Belichick passed on Russell Wilson and Cameron Heyward in the 2012 draft. Looking back, it’s one of those ‘what could have been’ moments. While Wilson went on to win a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2013, Heyward has turned into a defensive powerhouse for the Steelers.

Everyone is still poking fun at Belichick’s decision to pass on them in the draft 12 years ago given the tremendous careers both players have had . And this season, Heyward directly roasted Bill during an episode on ‘TheCW.’ In a lighthearted moment, while talking to the Steelers’ star DE, the Patriots’ former coach expressed his regret over not picking him in the draft. Cam had an apt response for Bill. “You had a chance in the first round, you took Solder,” joked the Steelers DE, referring to Nate Solder.

Nate Solder was picked by the Patriots in the 2011 NFL Draft. That same year, he signed a four-year, $8.54 million deal with the team. He became the starting left tackle in 2012 and played for New England for six seasons. In 2022, after his four-year deal with the Giants ended, he retired from football.

Well, Solder didn’t quite turn out to be as successful as Heyward and Wilson. Considering the three of them debuted around the same time, Belichick’s decision might still haunt him in his sleep. While Heyward kicked off his career with the Steelers in 2011, Russell Wilson joined the Seattle Seahawks a year later. After 10 seasons with the Seahawks, Wilson spent two years with the Broncos. Earlier this year in March, he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers, joining Heyward on the defensive side.

Well, thing are going good for Russ, but the Pats are fumbling post the Bray-Belichick era.

What’s your perspective on:

Are the Patriots' struggles proof that Belichick's magic was all about Brady?

Have an interesting take?

Bill Belichick’s Patriots are doomed this season

While the Steelers are dominating their division with an 8-2 record, Bill Belichick’s Patriots are stuck at the bottom, barely securing three wins against the Bears, Jets, and Bengals. Looks like, after Tom Brady, the Patriots have lost their spark. They’ve been struggling all over the place, from top to bottom and right to left. The offense and defense have been a mess, and there’s been no consistency at quarterback play.

Tom Brady and Belichick must be crying in the corner, watching what was once one of the greatest teams in the NFL fail to find success. On the flip side, the Steelers have been on fire this season. They recently crushed Lamar Jackson’s Ravens, and after beating strong teams, they’re showing no signs of slowing down. They’ve probably cemented their place in the playoffs, and of course, they’re eyeing the Super Bowl too.

While Mike Tomlin’s squad has won their last five games. The Patriots should just go home and sleep now. Hopefully, next season, Belichick’s former team will come back strong.
