Is Caleb Williams being unfairly blamed for the Bears' struggles, or is it time for a change?

Imagine your teammates turning against you when you’re not at your best. It would hurt, right? That’s the situation Caleb Williams finds himself in. The 22-year-old QB, who just debuted in the NFL this season, is living a nightmare. His rookie season has turned into a series of letdowns, and things aren’t going his way. Not exactly how he pictured starting his pro career.

Things took an ugly turn after the Bears fired OC Shane Waldron following their recent loss to the Patriots. The Bears’ offense (4-5) just isn’t clicking this season, which is putting QB Caleb Williams in a tough spot. Williams’ struggles aren’t sitting well with his teammates. Some are even telling the coaches to reconsider his spot on the team. And now, the whole Waldron firing situation is just adding to his woes. And if Caleb’s not the guy, then who’s going to step in as QB? Well, the other guys on the team are pushing for Tyson Bagent to get the chance.

Is Caleb Williams being unfairly blamed for the Bears' struggles, or is it time for a change?

Have an interesting take?

The Bears decided to move on from Waldron after a string of losses and no sign of improvement. His time as offensive coordinator was the shortest in Bears history, lasting just nine games, making it the shortest tenure since 1970. Moving on, the situation for the Bears’ QB is pretty alarming. His teammates doubt his abilities, say he’s not good enough, and pass those concerns on to the coaches. You can only imagine the emotional toll he must be dealing with. Being the first overall pick and then not living up to expectations in your debut season? That’s tough.

Caleb Williams’ struggles aren’t entirely on him, though. A lot of it falls on the coaching staff. Matt Eberflus, the head coach, has made some questionable decisions recently that have kept him in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Plus, the defense just can’t hold up, making it even harder for the offense to get anything going. So, with all this happening, is it fair to put everything on the QB?

What’s next for Caleb Williams with the Bears?

On Monday, Matt Eberflus mentioned there would be some changes to the team. The next thing we know, OC Shane Waldron got the boot. But was that the only move Eberflus was talking about? Rumors are swirling that the Bears might bench Caleb Williams, and we could see Tyson Bagent take the field. If that’s true, it would be a shock to both Caleb and Bears fans. As of now, there is no official word on this.

Tyson Bagent made his NFL debut with the Bears last year, mostly backing up Justin Fields. However, he did step in as the starter when Fields was injured. During his rookie season with the Bears, Tyson Bagent played in five games, throwing 3 touchdowns but also tossing 6 interceptions. He completed 65.7% of his passes and racked up 859 yards. This season has played in two games only.

If we take a look at Williams’ stats this season, he’s thrown for 1,785 yards, completing 60.5% of his passes. He’s had 9 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. It’s not that Bagent’s stats are better than Caleb’s. Both have been somewhat inconsistent performers. Both quarterbacks have shown flashes of talent, but neither has been able to keep it consistent. Maybe the Bears’ management needs to rethink their approach instead of just firing and benching people.
