This year, Tee Higgins ran out of his rookie deal and became a free agent in March. While he was open to offers, the Bengals WR made it clear that he saw the Cincinnati team as his top priority. His relationship with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase also might have been a reason for him to want to stay. Now, it has come to notice that things might be moving in the right direction between Higgins and the team.

Tee Higgins already stated his preference and confirmed his intentions to WXIX-TV. While earlier, Duke Tobin, the Bengals GM had also mentioned that Tee Higgins is “untouchable” during the trading season, sources have assured that the Cincinnati team are clear about not wanting to trade Tee Higgins.

Initially, Ben Baby, who covers the Bengals for ESPN pointed out on X that, “Bengals WR Tee Higgins told reporters at his youth camp today that he anticipates playing for Cincinnati in ’24 after previously requesting a trade.” Senior reporter Jeremy Fowler confirmed Baby’s words and mentioned that the Bengals were also interested in keeping Higgins.

Fowler replied to the post by adding, “The #Bengals have made clear behind the scenes they have no plans to trade Higgins. Want another run at a Super Bowl with Ja’Marr Chase and Higgins on the outside.”  In a video posted by NBC’s Charlie Clifford, Higgins said, “I do anticipate it,” and added, “I’ve grown a love for Cincinnati that I didn’t think I would. [I’m] looking forward to it.”

If the WR chooses to accept the franchise tag, it would be a one-year deal close to $21.8 million, per ESPN. Also, both sides have until July 15 to agree to a long-term deal.  However, there are other factors at play here.

Trouble looming around the Bengals

Though Burrow, Chase, and Higgins have good relations with each other, the fact remains that Burrow and Chase’s hefty contracts are not helping the Bengals’ cap space. Per sources, the Bengals might not be able to provide the WR with a long-term deal during these dwindling times.

This also means that Higgins might find a home somewhere else if a more lucrative option shows up.  After all, “anticipation” doesn’t meet surety. For about 2 years, the Bengals have been in this push-and-pull relationship with Higgins and now the game might come to an end.
