Is Deebo Samuel the emotional leader the 49ers need to 'flip they ass' this season?

For the first time in the last 30 years, the Detroit Lions made it to the NFC Championship round, with Jared Goff at the end. But there was one small problem. They had to face Brock Purdy, Deebo Samuel, and the other 49ers squad before they could see themselves playing for the Lombardi. They came very close but lost 34-31. But the 49ers didn’t know what schemes the Kansas City Chiefs had in their minds for the next Super Bowl game.

Everything fell apart when the Kansas City Chiefs won 25-22 against the San Francisco 49ers. Samuel’s past would be flashing in front of his eyes as he remembered the phone call to his mother from the locker room. At this point, this was the second loss to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, and it couldn’t have been more disappointing. No one can avoid the feeling of losing, but for Samuel, the déjà vu was something else.

“I’m 28 now and I’ve been playing football for about 24 of these years. So, as a kid, you just like, ‘Yo, like I dream of playing in the Super Bowl.’ I’m like, ‘Once you get there, you like, ,”All right I’m here,'” said Samuel about losing Super Bowl for the first time.

Second time was even bitter because he was seriously questioning everything at this point. “Then you get there again, you like, ‘All right, now I ain’t losing twice,’ and then you lose again, you’re just like, Bro, like, what the hell is it going to take for us to win one?” added Samuel as his voice gets replaced by sulky music.

Samuel had a really bad time figuring out what went where in the Super Bowl game. He failed to put up big numbers like he usually did. In the Super Bowl game, he recorded 3 receptions over 11 targets, over a measly 33 yards. That might have been abysmally disappointing for the 49ers, but even more for Deebo Samuel, whose mother was so hyped for the game, he couldn’t stand up to her excitement.

A recap from the locker room after ending Detroit Lions Super Bowl dreams

For the first time in 3 decades, the Lions reached to an NFC Championship against the San Francisco 49ers. The game was close, but they couldn’t get the best of the San Fran team. Samuel couldn’t get much done in the game either, but at least he didn’t miss much of his passes. Maybe that was irking him when he took to the locker room and called his mother to tell her what was going on.

The locker room was lit up after the players entered the place. In a place full of media personnel, Deebo Samuel finally caught some time and the first thing he did was call his mother. It all came together in the episode 8 of Netflix’s “Receiver.”

There Deebo was with a hopeless look on his face, thinking whether his mother would pick up the Facetime call or not. But to his surprise, he was treated by a mother who was elated to see how the game went. Calling it excitement would be an understatement at this point.

“Now you gotta get your bags packed!” said Deebo’s mom and the excitement could be heard over our end of the video. But Samuel still couldn’t believe the game he went through. The overtime struggle finally worked out for him. “Mama, this is crazy,” admitted Samuel.

But even before she could acknowledge her son’s sentiments, she saw something unusual. Yes, the big cameras hanging over Deebo’s head would make her curious about what was going on. His mother had a message for the camera person too.

Who is that? Is that recording me?” said Mama Samuel, and she was sure that her boys’ team would pulverize the Kansas City Chiefs. “Boy, we about to flip they ass.”  They did for a moment. But Patrick Mahomes being Patrick Mahomes came in clutch and the game went to overtime. Rest is history.

Maybe the San Francisco 49ers will be going to the Super Bowl again this time around. The only thing is that Samuel’s Super Bowl window is closing, as this is his last year with the San Francisco 49ers and the contract extension doesn’t seem to be in sight.
