In the NFL world, seeing a player or a coach apologize for something that was said during a media interaction is not very new. However, one might rarely have encountered an apology like the one issued by the Tennessee Titans QB Will Levis. The Titans broke their three-game losing streak in the game by going 17-10 on the Carolina Panthers.

After the game, during the media interaction, Levis said something that he said he should not have said. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), being the brutally honest man that he is, he said “sorry” for the same. So, what was the QB’s mistake that forced him to apologize publicly?

A glowing Will Levis took the podium to speak to the reporters eager to get his reaction after their victory over the Panthers. And that’s when he made a mistake. He said his team had done an excellent job advancing down the field and completing the drives against the Panthers’ defense. But he used the word “capitulate” instead of “matriculate.

He soon realized that he had messed up his vocabulary and took to X to apologize to his English teachers for messing up. “Been killing me. I apologize to all my former English teachers,” he tweeted. He revealed he had meant “matriculate,” which Merriam-Webster defines as “to advance,” instead of “capitulate,” which means to “cease resisting.” Levis better pray that his former teachers hadn’t heard his post-game interaction.

Levis carried the day for the Titans

In the Sunday Night Football victory over Carolina, Levis completed almost 65% of his passes for 185 yards and threw nil interceptions. On the other hand, he failed to record a touchdown as well. Most of his work came during the first half, attempting just 10 passes in the last two quarters as the Titans tried to hold on to the lead. The Panthers game was his third straight game with fewer than 200 passing yards, and has failed to record a TD in three of his games.

On a positive note, Levis was willing to push the ball down the field and completed more than one in three passes with more than 15 yards. The Titans have relied on their defensive team and rushing strategy to win games this season. The play callers look unwilling to change this going forward, so it seems like Levis will have a limited role to play.

Despite not being one of his best games, he outperformed Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young. In Week 13, the Titans will face the Indianapolis Colts.
