Is Caleb Williams the future of the Bears, or just another flash in the pan?

When Caleb Williams proclaimed, “My football GOAT is Aaron Rodgers!” back in March, it might have felt out of the blue. Fast forward five months and the Bears’ rookie QB showing why! On Saturday, 18th August, making his debut on Soldier Field in the preseason game, Williams played like he was channeling the Green Bay legend himself. Especially when he flipped the switch with a rocket of a pass. Long hair, a bit more height, and a green-gold shirt would have seriously forced many to question if they were witnessing AR-12 himself. That’s how good this kid’s throw was!

But he is not just winning fans in Chicago; he’s catching the eye of Cowboys’ WR CeeDee Lamb too. The wideout couldn’t help but gush on an Instagram story, captioning a snap of Williams, @ayeeecaleb Love it youngin.” And why not? With a scramble left and a contorted throw to rookie Rome Odunze for a 45-yard gain just before the two-minute warning, Williams showed he’s got the goods. But it’s ironic how he’s pulling a classic A-Rod move and giving Bears fans something to roar about. Well, that’s what happens when your rookie, lighting the gridiron with magical plays, starts loving the player you hate the most. We feel you, Bear Nation!

But what about Caleb Williams? The Bears’ offense came out like a team stuck in quicksand during Saturday’s preseason game against the Bengals. Three straight three-and-outs in the first quarter had fans groaning like they’d just watched a missed field goal from 30 yards. But things finally clicked in the second quarter—well, sort of. A defensive pass interference bailed them out, leading to a field goal. Hey, points are points, right?

Then came the moment that made fans sit up. Williams dropped back, eyes scanning the field, before pulling off a move that had even the Bengals’ defense second-guessing. He spun left like a ballerina in cleats, found a wide-open Rome Odunze with a step on Josh Newton, and launched the ball off one leg with a flick that would make even Patrick Mahomes raise an eyebrow. The pass was a gem, and Odunze was on duty. He leaped to grab the pigskin, got up, and roared. Letting out his inner ‘Bear’.

GM Ryan Poles wasn’t kidding when he talked about sorting QBs into artists and surgeons. And Williams? He’s out here like Picasso on the gridiron. The kid paints abstract masterpieces that leave defenders chasing ghosts. This is the kind of play Bears fans have been waiting for.

Caleb Williams’ touchdown was magic unfolding!

What’s your perspective on:

Is Caleb Williams the future of the Bears, or just another flash in the pan?

Have an interesting take?

The Bears crushed the Bengals 27-3, but let’s be honest—it was the Caleb Williams show. From a 45-yard arrow to a jaw-dropping play, rather we should call it a dance on the center, that left Bear Nation ready to chug their beers in celebration. The No. 1 overall pick didn’t disappoint. Let’s talk about the dance we just mentioned. Ah! The nimble footwork and the touchdown. Are we witnessing the making of a seasoned vet?

On first-and-goal from the 7, Williams moved around the pocket, evading pressure before launching a perfect strike to Odunze. Too bad the rookie wideout was out of bounds—otherwise, it would’ve been a highlight reel touchdown. Rather, there’s only the buzz for that laser throw right now. But Williams didn’t flinch.

Two plays later, he performed the dance one might do with their joysticks. He scrambled for the ball, out of pressure with a twist and a turn, leaving the Bengals’ defense in dust, gliding into the end zone for a 7-yard score. It’s the type of play that makes you wonder if the rest of the NFL should start getting nervous. And if you missed it, don’t worry, PFF’s X post sums it up the best, “Caleb Williams is out here playing Madden 🎮.”

Williams finished his day with a modest 6-of-13 for 75 yards, a passer rating of 64.8, and that sweet 7-yard TD run. Sure, it wasn’t a flawless performance, but that glimpse of brilliance is enough to get Bears fans dreaming big. With just one preseason game left before the real action kicks off, we might not see Williams again until the seasoner opener against the Titans.

But here’s the big question: Will this preseason flash turn into a regular-season fire? Only time will tell, but something is ‘cooking’ in Chicago that’s worth keeping an eye on.
