Did the Browns make a colossal mistake choosing Watson over Mayfield? What do you think?

The Cleveland Browns had a day to forget after their horror show against the Cowboys. As the home team lost the game by 33-17, the “America’s team” ensured they bashed the home team while playing the Browns off the field. But one of the players who received the heat following the game was $230 million QB Deshaun Watson.

Coming back from a season-ending shoulder injury last year, Watson has found himself subjected to NFL community trolls as one of them wrote, “Baker Mayfield was better than Deshaun Watson then and he’s better than Deshaun Watson now.” Looking at Watson’s performance on Sunday, where he finished with 24-of-45 with 169 passing yards, one TD and two interceptions. It might not be surprising that he is getting called out and is being compared to Mayfield.

Well, this was the only comment that got thrown toward Watson as another fan wrote, “Baker Mayfield ended up better than Deshaun Watson this is insanely hilarious.” Playing under a revamped offensive setup under newly turned head coach Kevin Stefanski and OC Ken Dorsey, Watson often relied upon short throws while missing his receivers on a repeated pattern.

With a passer rating of 51.1, Watson didn’t get the required help from his receiver room, as Elijah Moore, Amari Cooper and David Njoku had a day to forget. Moore fumbled multiple passes while Cooper couldn’t get a touchdown over the end zone. Meanwhile, Njoku left the field with an ankle injury that made the Browns’ season opener one of the worst in their history. Elsewhere, former Browns QB who recently signed with the Buccaneers is getting praise from every corner in the NFL.

Baker Mayfield’s strong showing compared to Watson’s horror show

Have an interesting take?

Mayfield might have finally found himself a home at Tampa Bay after he put in a monster performance, thereby leading his team to a huge victory against the Commanders. As the Buccaneers finished with a score of 37-20, Mayfield ended his night with 24-of-30 while racking up 289 passing yards and four touchdowns. With no interceptions on the night, he even accumulated 21 rushing yards to his total. After signing a contract worth $100 million this year, the Bucs showed clear signs of keeping him at Tampa Bay.

And, boy, they have received the return gift every Bucs fan would be hoping for from their star QB. His five-star performance got the head coach Todd Bowles calling, “Bake did a heck of a job. He was good with his throws, he was good with his reads, with his checks, everything was on point. He was excited, he ran when he had to make some plays with his feet, he played a good overall game.”

It was the best possible start Mayfield should be hoping for while showing glimpses of the things yet to come as the regular season is off to a banger. But elsewhere, at Browns, things might be looking good after multiple setbacks could derail their ambitions navigating through the season.
