Is Brian Daboll's frustration with the Giants' O-Line justified, or is he deflecting blame?

The New York Giants 18-26 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers has the head coach Brian Daboll questioning his roster. Daniel Jones had the chance of making something out of nothing but was picked off in the fleeting seconds of the game. The Giants’ head coach didn’t look enthusiastic throughout the game and the loss turned those looks even sourer.

Linebacker Bobby Okereke did his best when he recovered the Russell Wilson fumble and gave New York the ball in the Steelers’ territory. But the Giants were headed in for a disappointment as TJ Watt overpowered Daniel Jones, stripped him and recovered the fumble. That didn’t sit well with Brian Daboll, and he had the O-Line to blame for it.

The Giants HC took the podium after the game and called out his O-Line for not chipping TJ Watt before the strip sack. Per him, the team had some “communication issues” that weren’t sorted out in due time. Greg Johnson, the Giants reporter, uploaded a snippet of the presser and Brian Daboll looks to be short of words.

The video on X titled, “Brian Daboll doesn’t offer any commentary on Daniel Jones’ play on the last two drives other than the Giants needed to maintain possession of the ball. Also said T.J. Watt was supposed to be chipped before the strip sack,” says it all.

The head coach also mentioned that Jones was supposed to buy time for Jermaine Eluemunor to give him a chip block on TJ Watt. Daniel Jones made good on 24 of his 38 throws but was sacked 4 times. Moreover, he failed to capitalize on the 2-point conversion early in the fourth quarter, which added to the chances of upset.

Have an interesting take?

With this defeat, the New York Football Giants have slipped to a 2-6 record. One would think that Brian Daboll might end up on the chopping block, but the reality couldn’t be any different. In fact, the Giants owner, John Mara, backed Brian Daboll and the GM Joe Schoen.

How John Mara’s father saved Brian Daboll’s job

Despite the abysmal start to the season, the Giants head coach and the GM can move forward because they don’t have to be worried about getting fired, unlike Robert Saleh. The NFL Network just premiered a documentary in New York titled, The Duke: The Giant Life of Wellington Mara and that has something to do with it. So, how does it help Brian Daboll and the GM?

Mara spoke to the people in attendance and said that his father preached patience. Hence, he didn’t anticipate making any changes to the team and remain patient to see what the HC has in store. In Daboll’s first year as a head coach, he led the team to the playoffs, but the team performance dwindled because of mounting injuries in the 2023 season. This season doesn’t seem to do any favor to the Giants either.

It remains to be seen to when John Mara loses his patience and decides to do something about the struggling New York Giants.
