Did Malik Willis just prove he's the real deal by shutting up Taylor Lewan?

In the world of the NFL, strong opinions and even stronger rivalries are the norm. Recently, Taylor Lewan, renowned for his candid takes, expressed doubt about Malik Willis football knowledge. This sparked quite a bit of conversation, especially considering the pressure Willis has faced as a young quarterback on the rise. Under the spotlight, Willis prompted intriguing commentary from notable figures, like Pat McAfee.

Pat McAfee shared his thoughts on Willis, praising his performance with the Green Bay Packers game against the Indianapolis Colts. He remarked, “The Packers were POUNDING the rock yesterday, and it was so satisfying to watch. Malik Willis did exactly what he needed to do and you have to give Matt LaFleur a lot of credit.” McAfee acknowledged Willis’s capability to execute the game plan effectively, especially in a run-heavy offensive scheme designed by Head Coach Matt LaFleur.

McAfee’s words contrast sharply to those of former Titans tackle Taylor Lewan. On his podcast, Lewan noted, “I like Malik Willis. He’s a good human being and always has a smile on his face when you see him in the locker room. The guy doesn’t really know ball, unfortunately … he has a tough time seeing safeties; he has a tough time seeing where blitzes are coming from.” Lewan’s remarks implied that Willis struggled with the intricacies required of an NFL quarterback, particularly regarding pre-snap reads and checks.

Despite all the doubts, HC Matt LaFleur and the rest of the team have shown faith in Willis. LaFleur praised his improvement and ability to adapt to the offensive scheme. And with each game, the rapport he builds with his teammates helps him get better. Malik even praised his offense, saying, We all put in the work together. Everyone has to be on the same page for us to succeed.
